Somali Translator
Pay: $15/hr
Work Hours: TEMPORARY Part Time, **May 2nd � June 3rd 2022**
Intake and distribution hours (MWF 12-3pm, Th 5-8pm) 12-15hrs/week
Job Duties: Include but are not limited to:
-Live in the St. Peter/Mankato area
-Fluency in Somali in addition to English
-Directly assist Food Shelf clients who are in need of translation services. This includes but is not limited to:
-Assisting clients with the intake and food selection process.
-Using phones and navigating the facility computer program.
-Collecting and translating personal information for facility records.
-Converting speech and text materials from one language to another.
-Ensuring that translated speech and/or materials convey the original meaning and tone.
-Community outreach and engagement; advertising food shelf services to those who are not fluent in English.
-Assisting clients who are not fluent in English with accessing other community services.
-Ability to work independently
-Able to prioritize tasks and set personal deadlines
-Regular communication with Management to convey community and facility needs.
-Reading and researching industry-specific materials to stay current with regulations and improve services.
-Networking with other individuals and/or organizations to assess community needs and program effectiveness.
Skills Required:
-Fluency in written and spoken Somali and English
-Proficiency in basic computer skills
-Proficiency in Google Office programs (Drive, .docs, sheets, etc.)
Desired Skills:
-1+ Years experience in customer service
-1+ Years experience providing translation services
