Bike Rental Associate
The Encampment Store at Valley Forge National Historical Park is looking for two hard-working, detail oriented, enthusiastic individuals to assist us at our bike rental business!
This position manages the daily operations of the bike rental and ensures a high quality and safe experience for all Park visitors. Our fleet consists of adult bikes, child bikes, toddler trailers and (by summer 2023) e-bikes. The associates are responsible for:
cash handling
providing outstanding customer service to our visitors
orienting visitors to Valley Forge National Historical Park
ensuring visitors are aware of rules and safety precautions involved with renting
ensuring visitors understands risks associated with renting
inspecting bikes before and after rentals for damage
cleaning our fleet daily
maintaining cleanliness and organization of bike shed
reporting supply needs quickly
reporting repair issues and tags damaged bikes with accurate descriptions of repair needs
working with management staff to regularly improve and promote the bike rental operation.
This position requires weekend and holiday hours (8-hour shifts) available Fall and Spring. Full-time (5 days a week/ 40 hours) available Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The 2023 rental season is below.
April 1- May 28: Weekends 9:00am-5:00pm (last rentals at 3:00pm)
May 29-September 4: Daily 9:00am-5:00pm (last rentals at 3:00pm)
September 9- October 29: Weekends 9:00am-5:00pm (last rentals at 3:00pm)
We are seeking two associates for one weekend day in the Spring and Fall and full-time in the summer as follows:
Bike Associate 1
Saturdays April 1-May 20
Friday-Tuesday and holidays May 29-September 4
Saturdays September 9-October 28
Bike Associate 2
Sundays: April 2-May 21
Wednesdays-Sundays and holidays: May 29-September 4
Sundays: September 10-October 29
If more hours are desired for the right candidate, we are willing to shift roles to Bike Associate 1 working both weekend days and full-time Memorial Day-Labor Day (a second candidate would be hired to only cover full-time summer season coverage to assist Bike Associate 1).
Rentals will be closed if there is inclement weather (heavy rain, thunderstorms or when heat advisories are issued). Closures will be determined between the bike associates and their supervisor.
No prior bicycle knowledge is required, but it is definitely a plus. Individual must also be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to safely lift 30 - 70 lbs. If you love working outside and meeting people from all over the world, you will have fun with this!
Paid training, $13-$14 to start. We are open to an increase for the right candidate who would be available our entire season (March-November). Good opportunity for high school (Juniors or Seniors) and college students.
