Community Engagement Specialist
Brief Description
The Community Engagement Specialist provides key linkages between DRBC and communities throughout the four-state Delaware River Basin by developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and executing programming by highlighting connections to water resources. The successful candidate will develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including rural and environmental justice communities, to grow an understanding of issues, implement collaborative projects, help track results and suggest improvements. The successful candidate will plan, promote and execute DRBC-led events, participate with partner organizations at partner-led events, educate partners and stakeholders about the Delaware River Basin Commission and develop a deep understanding of the work of partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders including rural and environmental justice communities, to contribute to issue understanding, implement collaborative projects, help track results and suggest improvements.
• Plan, promote and execute DRBC-led events, both in-person and digital, participate with partner organizations at partner-led events and educate partners and stakeholders about DRBC.
• Maintain professional presence and relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders, colleagues, vendors and the public. Serve as a first line of communication on vendor estimates, invoices, contracts and waivers.
• Develop and implement technical resources for stakeholders, such as trainings and webinars.
• Engage in regular communication with the Director, External Affairs and Communications and team members to integrate DRBC messages and topics into programming and to share feedback and learning from stakeholders.
• Organize and maintain a calendar of community events to optimize staff impact.
• Supervise staff volunteers and interns.
• Support research and planning for future program growth, including funding opportunities.
• Ensure that all work is completed in a way that promotes safety and manages risk for self, instructors, participants and the public.
• Execute and manage registration platforms for attendance and reports.
• Work within the program budget.

Education and Certification
• 4+ Years of Experience. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in hospitality, recreation, event management project management or related field may be substituted for experience.
• Maintain safety training and certifications as relevant, e.g., Basic First Aid and CPR. Additional certifications in outdoor-related activities are desired.
• Driver’s license required.

Skills and Experiences
• High-level organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and an engaging personality.
• Experience in working with diverse communities and commitment to DEIJ principles.
• English fluency is required. Fluency in an additional language is desirable.
• The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, on- and near water.
• Ability to frequently move materials between locations, up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to maintain a high level of enthusiasm, motivation and positive attitude.
• Works as a team player with colleagues and partners.
• Technologically savvy across platforms to manage event planning logistics.

Position Type and Pay

• DRBC Grade E12 – Salary Range $44,450 - $66,600.
• This grant-supported position is currently funded for a period of twelve (12) months, after which its continuation is dependent upon the availability of additional external grant funding.
