Personal Profile: The Worship Leader, hereafter referred to as “this leader,” must be committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, to the Word of God, to the fellowship of the saints, and desire to be continually filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. As a member of New Life Fellowship Church this leader is expected to participate in the regular services, events, and activities of the church, to be fervent in prayer and active in the corporate prayer meetings, adhere to the church’s core beliefs (listed on the church website), and seek to fulfill the church’s mission (to love God, love people, and make disciples). This leader has to hear from God, have a desire to unselfishly serve the church, have a calling to facilitate worship primarily through music and song, and have the skills and experience to lead a team with excellence. This leader should exhibit a passion for developing a culture in our church that values worship. Because of the high visibility of this role, this leader should lead by example, modeling the attributes of Christ and living a godly lifestyle, exhibiting a high degree of moral and spiritual maturity in their personal life.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Proficiency in voice and a lead instrument (piano/keyboard or guitar) including ability to learn and continuously improve personal skills and capabilities
• 1-2 years of experience on a worship team and/or leading worship
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
• Ability to create, coordinate and lead a worship experience with a team
• Ability to learn and use sound equipment including microphones, monitors, and a sound board for the worship
experience
• Ability to handle multiple projects effectively
• Able to work independently without constant supervision
• Ability to learn and use ProPresenter for managing and presenting song lyrics
• Ability to learn and use Zoom and live streaming tools in support of online meetings
• Ability to learn and use worship ministry resources (such as Worship Artistry) and productivity tools (such as MS
Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Areas of Responsibility: Weekly responsibilities will typically begin on Monday and culminate in the Worship Service and communications the following Sunday. In addition to the regular meetings of the church, this leader will plan for and lead special events such as Worship Nights. In reporting directly to the Lead Pastor, this leader communicates with the Lead Pastor every week to plan for the coming week and review the ministry during the previous week, including victories, challenges, and prayer needs. The creative nature of the job requires a high degree of work autonomy. This leader will spend the majority (80% or more) of their time in leading the worship team, preparing for and leading worship, and preparing the AV system/tools for in-person and online ministry. The remaining time will be to develop the worship capabilities at our church. Specific Responsibilities During Weekly Services & For Leading Worship Team:
Planning, preparation, and support for all services must account for congregants attending in person and online. Some services may be online only and need to be supported accordingly. Preparation for and leading worship in services other than on a Wednesday or Sunday will be addressed as needed.
Responsibilities for the weekly Wednesday meeting (which begins at 7pm and ends at 8:30pm) and the weekly Sunday worship service (which begins at 10am and ends at 11:30am) include but are not limited to the following:
• Coordinate with the Lead Pastor, AV & Media Leader, and/or others, as necessary, when preparing for the weekly services to know meeting/sermon focus and church needs.
• Coordinate with worship team members for regular practice sessions. Ensure worship team members are ready to serve, including having practiced and prepared personally.
• Check all necessary lights, sound, projection, live streaming, and musical equipment in sanctuary before a service. Must have everything ready for in-person and/or online participation 15 minutes before the service begins.
• Prepare for approximately 10-15 minutes of worship on Wednesday and 20-25 minutes on Sunday.
• On Wednesday begin meeting promptly at 7pm with worship led by 1 or more worship team members. Provide
guidance to the team, as appropriate. Lead worship, if necessary.
• On Sunday morning complete lead worship in music/song that begins soon after the Call to Worship. Be
prepared to start the service promptly at 10am (with or without a separate Call to Worship) if the person scheduled to do the Call to Worship is not there.
Responsibilities for leading worship team:
• Select worship team members in conjunction with the Lead Pastor and/or other leaders based on musical ability, knowledge and experience, availability for regular practices and ministry, heart for worship, and prayer.
• Lead worship team in prayer and Bible study/devotion, as appropriate.
• Coordinate practice times and logistics for worship team.
• Create and manage rotation schedule for worship team members.
• Know how to set up and check sound equipment, projection equipment, lights, online connections, and live
streaming.
• Set up ProPresenter for all songs.
• Assist Lead Pastor and other speakers/presenters with music/worship that accompanies their presentations.
• Clean stage area and sound booth after each practice and service. Get worship team members to assist.
Success Criteria:
• Worship team members are being cared for and shepherded during practice sessions, during services, and through regular interactions. Worship team members grow in their knowledge and practice of worshipping God in Spirit and in truth.
• Worship time effectively minsters to and engages the congregants with theologically sound old and new songs. Congregants grow in their knowledge and practice of worshipping God in Spirit and in truth.
