Part-time Preschool Music and Movement Teacher

Job Description 

Our music teacher will design and implement age appropriate music and movement lessons for our students aged 2 years to 6 years of age.  Curriculum designs should include basic music theory (rhythm, pitch and tempo), as well as instruction in vocalization, singing, playing simple musical instruments, body movement, musical games, and dance.  Instruction may also include leading the students in seasonal songs, fingerplays, and rhymes.  This position also requires leading rehearsals for a musical performance that takes place in November, as well as leading the performance itself. 

 

Employment Terms

-This position is part time and hourly.  

-The school year begins in August.  Music instruction will begin the last week of August and end the second week of May.  

-Music classes are offered to students 2 years and older.  Lessons are provided to 5 total classes at this time.  Each of these five classes receive approximately 30 minutes of music instruction, for a total of 2.5 hours each week, plus extra time for rehearsal for our musical performances. 

-Must be available Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 9:30am-12pm. Timing of classes is negotiable, within limits. 

 

Required Skills

-Ability to lead and engage a group of young children (groups of up to 15) for a 30 minute lesson.

-Ability to engage children in a warm and friendly way.  

-Ability to plan and implement lessons that are suitable and engaging for the ages taught (2-year-olds to 6 year-olds).

-Ability to organize materials and supplies for each day's activities.

-Ability to adapt the curriculum to suit the needs of the students.

-Willingness and ability to create and maintain a safe and engaging environment for music instruction.

-Excellent communication skills with both adults and young children.

-Comfortable speaking and performing in front of groups and audiences.

-Willingness to collaborate with the day school director on curriculum and music performances.

 

Experience and Education Requirements

-At least 18 years of age.

-Possess a highschool diploma minimum.

-Preference for early childhood certification, education degree, or music-related degree.

-Prior early childhood experience required (professional or supervised volunteer work).

-Prior experience teaching music concepts to others (professional or supervised volunteer work)

-Preference for a teacher that can play piano with moderate proficiency (playing simple children’s songs). 

Pay: $18-$20/hour for estimated 2.5 hours a week
