Kennel Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic and hard working person to join our kennel staff. The right candidate will be customer service oriented with good written and verbal communication skills. Our kennel assistants are responsible for overseeing all aspects of dog care including feeding, medicating, exercising, playing, grooming and cleaning. The position is for approximately 15 - 20 hours per week with the option of additional hours as the candidate gains experience, especially during peak seasons. We are seeking someone to reliably work weekends, and sometimes other days as well, especially in busy seasons, holidays are a must.

 

This job requires and/or involves the following:
Handling dogs of varied temperaments 

Comfortable with our 6 rescue cats and the occasional cat staying at the kennel
Ability to comfortably bend, lift and carry at least 50 pounds 
Ability to work in the elements including hot, cold, and rainy weather 
Weekends and many holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas break a must) 
Standing or walking for long periods 
Attention to detail 
Ability to multi-task 
Physical stamina 

Assisting in Check-in and Check-out procedures
Manage and track scheduled services using computerized system

Greeting and interacting with dog owners
Have reliable transportation (Our kennel is unable to be reached via public transportation)
Ability to work independently (You’ll sometimes be the only one working)

Ability to work as a team (During busy times when we have many dogs, teamwork is key)

 

If you love caring for dogs, this is a very enjoyable job but our employees' responsibilities go way beyond "playing with dogs". We actively monitor and continuously interact with the dogs, whether they are at play, exercising, at rest or being fed. The right candidate can handle barking, cleaning dog waste, dog hair and physical work. Prior experience not required but a huge plus, experience in customer service also appreciated.
