Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 BOE. Benefits stipend negotiable. Initially this is a one-year position that will work between 24-30 hours a week. The position is renewable, including with growth potential, provided funding is available and with Board approval.

Position Overview: Auburn Public Schools Foundation (APSF) seeks an enthusiastic and passionate Development Director to manage our fundraising initiatives and donor relations programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing our annual fundraising strategy and revising it when appropriate, pursuing relationships with potential and existing individual and corporate donors, identifying grant opportunities and applying for them, generating Foundation public relations and marketing materials, and collaborating with the board of Trustees and other stakeholders in our collective efforts to grow the vision, mission, and impact of APSF. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

1. Leadership and Strategic Planning:

 o Collaborate with the Board of Directors to design and implement strategic and annual operational plans.

 o Attend board meetings, planning meetings with the school district, and relevant community meetings to support the foundation’s work.

 o Motivate and inspire the Board of Directors to foster a culture of philanthropy within the board and the community. 

 o Build and maintain relationships within the community to support the foundation’s programs and fundraising goals. 

 o Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain a strong team, ensuring a positive workplace culture and proper human resource practices.

2. Fundraising and Development: 

 o Develop and implement a comprehensive and diverse fund development strategy to sustain and grow the foundation’s revenue.

 o Oversee all fundraising activities including events, planned giving, annual giving, employee giving, and corporate partnerships. 

 o Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with core funding priorities and programs.

 o Cultivate long-term donor relationships and engagement, ensuring the foundation’s pledge to the school district is met annually. 

3. Public Relations and Community Engagement:

 o Develop and produce communications (brochures, marketing materials, press releases, web content) to educate the community about the foundation’s mission and events. 

 o Make presentations to various stakeholders, including the school district, PTO, businesses, and community clubs, to increase awareness and obtain donations. 

 o Maintain open communication with community organizations for partnership opportunities. 

Additional Areas of Engagement: Financial and Operation Oversight, Administrative Management, Board Relations 

The Development Director will work closely with the Board President, Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees to ensure productive day to day operations, collaborative and effective regular Board meetings, and the maintenance of official records and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Nonprofit Development, Sales, or Marketing. 

• Proven success in fundraising and development roles, with experience in event planning and donor relations. 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in public speaking. 

• Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to work independently. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and fundraising software applications. 

• High energy level, persistence, and self-motivation. 

• Graphic design experience is a plus
