Urban Grace is an ecumenical church located in the heart of downtown Tacoma, WA. We seek to create a space that is truly welcoming to everyone; this is reflected in our congregation that is composed of young families, professionals, those struggling with homelessness and mental illness, those who are uncertain what they believe, and lifelong Christians who want new ways to live out their faith.

Two positions available: Classroom Manager (PreK-1st Grade) AND Classroom Manager (2nd-5th Grade)

Part-time, 12-18 hours/month, starting at $18.00/hour compensation. Sunday mornings required as well as national background check.

Purpose

To supervise and participate in the provision of consistent and loving care of children PreK-1st grade or 2nd-5th grade during Urban Grace church services (Sundays 10am-12pm) and special events.

Primary Duties

  • Weekly oversight of classroom for children PreK-1st grade or 2nd-5th grade including set up, cleaning throughout class and afterwards, behavior management, etc. Occasional assignments with older or younger children.
  • Oversee and support volunteers during program time by providing needed materials, assistance with children, organizing space, answering operations and policy & procedure questions.
  • Clean up and organization of children’s spaces, storage, and other used rooms, requesting supplies as needed. Coordinate with Associate Pastor of Children’s & Youth Ministry for any maintenance or custodial concerns.
  • Consistent and clear communication to Associate Pastor of Children’s & Youth Ministry about plans, observations, requests, and concerns, typically in a weekly report
  • Professional communication with parents and congregation members.
  • Complete Orientation, Training and Online Safety courses as assigned and participate in ongoing training and collaboration meetings as required. Assist Associate Director of Children’s & Youth Ministry in training for Sunday School volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure that child safe practices are maintained including sign-in/sign-out, toileting, food handling, etc.

Knowledge and Experience

Reliable, empathetic, and honest

Strong verbal communication skills in English with children and parents

Flexible evening and weekend schedule. Sunday mornings required.

1-2 years childcare experience preferred

High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred

Respect for all people and the Christian church
