BEHAVIORAL HEALTH RESPITE PROVIDER Level 3

At VitalCare, we are committed to enhancing the lives of kids and adolescents with significant behavioral and mental health challenges. We provide respite in order to empower, mentor, and guide clients who are at risk of out of home placement to a happy and healthy wellbeing, by working with them in-home, and out in the community. Our services also provide essential relief from daily caretaking for parents and caregivers who we encourage to take a break and engage in self care. The role of the Behavioral Health Respite Provider is vital in our successful history of making a paramount difference in the lives of our clients and their families.

Our providers come from a wide range of backgrounds including; teachers/paraprofessionals, registered behavioral/psychiatric tech’s, youth mentors, babysitters/nannies with extensive experience with children with various mental health diagnoses, students who are in master’s of counseling programs looking to gain extra experience, etc. If this role sounds like it aligns with what you are passionate about, we encourage you to apply today!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Structured supervision for children with challenging behaviors by experienced behavioral and mental health professionals.
  • Assist with activities of daily living in order to teach self sufficiency and guide towards safe independence.
  • Provide companionship in the form of conversation, emotional reassurance, and coordination of mentally stimulating activities.
  • Engage in activities that provide opportunity to practice and increase socialization skills with family and in the community
  • Opportunity to eventually participate in Adventure Respite, a unique program designed to provide clients with gross motor activity and a new opportunity to achieve success. We offer Adventure Respite primarily in the summer months.
  • Attend periodic, paid educational sessions (normally 6 sessions per year).
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Master’s degree in psychology or related field- professional relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Able to communicate and understand communication effectively in exchanges between the client, family representatives, and other providers.
  • Successful completion of a written competency exam related to the agency PCW training course.
  • Availability for the following hours: Evening and weekend availability required. Weekday shifts are available.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience and knowledge with individuals with physical and verbal aggressions, and a history of elopement.
  • Understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model.
  • Comfort in dealing with sensitive family issues and issues related to the healthcare process.
  • Conscientious, observant, and proactive. We want you to carefully document your services and report any changes in the client’s health.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
  • Easily establishes rapport with managers, clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge or experience working with children and adolescents with behavioral health diagnoses such as generalized anxiety disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) skills and techniques is desired.

Pay: $22.50-$25.00 an hour

Location:

  • This role requires the provider to provide in-home services. We build your schedule so your clients are within a reasonable radius of each other, and pay mileage in between travel to clients homes ($0.67 per mile)

Schedule:

  • Minimum 3-hour individual client visits - ability to take on multiple clients
  • you have autonomy over your schedule - can work anywhere between 6 and 30 hours a week. Evening and weekend availability required. Weekday shifts are available.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in related field (Preferred) - ability to supplement with significant years of experience

Experience:

  • Pediatric Behavioral Health: 2 years (Required)
  • Pediatric Mental Health: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification/Other Requirements:

  • Driver's License (Required)
