Position: Pastor                                          

 

Requirements for Pastor

 

Pastor will report to the Staff Parrish Relations (SPR) committee and will abide by the Constitution and Bylaws of Cahill Methodist Church. Pastor will adhere to pastoral ethics, the Old and New Testament, Biblical interpretation of the testaments, financial planning education for the office of pastor, church finances and other administrative duties related to the work of a pastor. With the primary job of a pastor being to inform, lead and comfort a congregation, a pastor must be emotionally educated and trained as much as the role requires being administratively trained and university-educated to lead a congregation.

 

  • At a minimum, a pastor should have a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus or accreditation in ministry. A Master of Divinity from an accredited theological school or a seminary is recommended.

 

  • At a minimum, pastor must have experience as associate or youth pastors, working under the supervision of senior pastors.

 

  • Pastor must learn and show proficiency with the basics of social work in working with congregation members who are in crisis and who need counseling. A pastor will counsel and help various congregation members whether they are mourning the loss of a loved one or celebrating the birth of a new child. A pastor will keep all members counseling sessions confidential.

 

 

Primary and Essential Job Description

 

·         Prepare sermons on Bible lessons to meet the spiritual needs of the congregation.

·         Provide guidance and leadership to congregants while cultivating personal relationships.

·         Provide Bible Study – Personal and small group, both in-person and on-line

·         Perform pastoral care – Homebound & Sick visits, Hospital, phone calls/texts, emails (at least monthly if not more)

·         Continue Education / Self Development

·         Communicate with leaders of the church administration to implement new policies and worship themes.

·         Attend Meetings – SPRC, Trustees, Admin Council, etc.

·         Be available for special services such as: festivals, Easter activities, pre-marital classes, weddings, funerals, Ash Wednesday, baptisms, occasional appearances at kid’s programming etc.

·         Represent Cahill and build relationships with local church leaders.

·         Provide classes as needed: New/perspective members, confirmation class, etc.

·         Have integrity in all aspects - live according to biblical principles and maintain prayer life.

·         Provide newsletter articles.

·         Provide leadership in developing and expanding youth programs and curriculum.

·         Perform other job duties as assigned by church leadership
