About Camp Kudzu: 

Camp Kudzu educates, empowers, and inspires children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) through various summer overnight and day programs, weekend age-specific programs, weekend family camps, and monthly day programs across the state of Georgia. 

Delivering health education and diabetes self-management messages creatively to children in a stress-free group environment is a proven method for achieving improved health and wellness. A large volunteer team of medical specialists, including endocrinologists, registered dietitians, physicians and nurses deliver programs that result in campers attaining new levels of ability and independence with skills such as administering insulin, blood glucose monitoring and effective diet regulation. The unique demands placed on the youngest campers, as well as the older teens, are addressed with age-appropriate tools.

Position Summary: 

Reporting directly to the Medical Manager and consistent with the mission of Camp Kudzu, the Medical Coordinator will be responsible for the following: 

  • Ordering various medical supplies, managing current inventories, and tracking program medical supply usage.
  • Submitting forms, requests, and compliance for donated medical supplies from various companies, including calculating in-kind donations and remaining supplies each fiscal year.
  • Assist in the brainstorming and volunteer recruitment for educational sessions at family camps and summer programs. 
  • Communicate with partner sites about final camper numbers, meal planning, and Camp Kudzu medical protocols for all programs. 
  • Coordinate the packing of all medical supplies for programs, including calculating numbers needed of certain supplies, unpacking and organizing at camp, and leading the distribution and collection of supplies at the beginning/end of programs. 
  • Oversee the collection of data and recruitment of volunteers for our weekend program evaluation and annual BG review data project at the conclusion of each summer. 
  • Engage universities, hospitals, and other medical practices for volunteer recruitment and engagement. 
  • Screen volunteer applications for qualifications, experience, and applicable roles for programs. 
  • Assist in the overall development of new volunteer training exercises, onsite orientation activities, and management of volunteers during programs.
  • Assist and attend occasional agency-wide programs and events for fundraising and community development, as needed. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more
  • Ability to navigate terrain of a camp environment

Schedule: 

  • 40 hours standard weekly, typically Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
  • Hybrid work environment (Tuesday-Thursday in-office, Monday and Friday optional remote, depending on organization/program schedule).
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours required, with notice of upcoming program and meeting dates. 

Experience/Education: 

  • Required: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, health science, nursing, social work, or physical/mental health-related field.
    • 2-3 years of experience providing administrative, organizational, or program support to a non-profit or medical-specific program.
    • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office Suite, and Canva. 
  • Preferred:
    • Active licensure in medical or mental health field in the state of Georgia. 
    • Direct knowledge of or experience (either personal or professional) in type 1 diabetes management. 
    • 1-2 years of experience in volunteer management.
    • 1-2 years of experience in program evaluation.
    • Experience in UltraCamp and Constant Contact.

  • Salary will range based on experience (estimated $44k - $52k)
