Accountability Objective:


This position is responsible for managing the BYC Porter Avenue Maintenance which include a 65+ boat marina and Clubhouse facility. The primary responsibilities of this position include planning, directing and executing maintenance programs at Porter Avenue, inclusive of employment, employee relations, training and development, property maintenance (marina docks, building, security, and other member services. The incumbent must have the ability to communicate across a broad base and to determine and advise management of required maintenance and other related site requirements.

The position requires a strong knowledge of Marina and facility Maintenance, outstanding personal ethics, and excellent communications skills in order to provide leadership and strategic direction for the site. As part of the Club Manager's staff, the Maintenance Manager is a contributor and team member in the Clubs strategic and operating plans for Porter Avenue.
Principal End Results:

Manage the facility’s day-to-day Maintenance, including policy execution, employee management, and building and equipment maintenance. Direct, oversee and assist with the completion of all operation maintenance, installations, and site improvement projects, which include buildings, grounds, club owned boats and other equipment. Manages the development and execution of the clubs on-going preventive maintenance program. Works with planners and staff to lead the coordination execution of remodeling to club areas.
 

In liaison with the Boating Education Director, the incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of BYC Club boats used in the Sailing program: Opti, 430 and FJ sailboat maintenance, i.e., replace halyards, replace spreaders, repair pin tales, tiller, rudders. Motorboat maintenance, i.e., basic engine repair, replace filters, replace steering cables.
 

Responsible for keeping the site functioning at top efficiency through the effective selection, contracting, hiring and staff training. Set weekly plans and organizes work for all employees that allow for continuous improvement and increased productivity. Train and verify that all employees are familiar with and comply with safety regulations.

Responsible for the performance of scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) on equipment. Establishes and assures proper record maintenance.
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Porter Avenue facility budget. Takes corrective action, as may be required, to assure budget goals are attained. Participates in future year budget development. Identify and apply for available grant funding.
 

Procure supplies, equipment, repair parts and other items needed for completion of maintenance and/or contracted services. Maintains a log for all equipment repairs and costs.
 

Attends staff meetings and coordinates scheduling of all work activities; attends Porter Avenue Committee meeting(s) as scheduled by the Vice Commodore.
Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)’s for all essential Maintenance for Porter Avenue, as defined by the GM and Vice Commodore.
Responsible for cleaning, painting and maintaining other efficiency management programs. Responsible for always observing safety precautions. Must work in a manner that is safe while continuously ensuring quality and performance expectations are met. Be an active participant in Marina and Clubhouse facility efficiency programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Nature and Scope:


The position reports directly to the Club Manager and dotted line to the Fleet Captain. The Club Manager reports to the Buffalo Yacht Club Vice Commodore for Porter Avenue Maintenance. The Maintenance Manager is involved in daily strategic and tactical issues regarding facility Maintenance, employee training, Safety, expense spending, and operating compliance to BYC policies.

The Maintenance Manager must work closely with the Club Manager and the BYC Board of Directors and provide ongoing communication regarding key facility information, as required, for the Porter Avenue site.
Background/Skills:
High School Diploma or equivalent and preferably a Technical Certificate; 5 plus years maintenance work experience preferably in a Marina and Club environment is preferred. Strong management, leadership, and supervisory skills are highly desirable. Ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor; demonstrated ability of cooperation and leadership. Must be able to work unsupervised, efficiently, and safely.

Willingness to work beyond hours, if necessary, strong communication skills and the ability to mentor direct reports is required.
