The Digital Print Operator uses digital printing machines and software programs to effectively create materials per client request. In fulfilling these requests, the operators may adjust digital printing press settings, such as dimension, color, paper, or contrast. At times, operator will perform standard preflight functions on customer electronic files to ensure all elements for each page are included, all fonts are included and usable, all graphics are of the proper resolution and file format, and trim and bleed specifications are correct. Often numerous printing projects going will be processing at the same time and the operator must schedule projects to meet various deadlines.

Responsibilities/Duties
• Works concurrently with other employees to produce and finish print as noted on job tickets, which may include operation of roll to roll high speed inkjet press, roll to roll laser printing equipment, high speed color and black sheet fed digital presses, inventory of raw materials, folding, cutting, GBC punching, spiral or coil binding, collating, scoring, perforating, drilling, stitching or stapling, laminating, and wrapping
• Monitoring the printing process to maintain print quality and optimize productive and minimize waste.
• Assuring jobs are properly set up for quality/productivity Catch errors at the earliest possible stage
• Possess and demonstrate the skills and abilities to operate and maintain digital print equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform customer authorized maintenance. Maintain machine and accurately record service calls.
• Works with available resources to insure printed product maintains color accuracy and consistency.
• Verifies quality checks are being performed per SOP and inspect work for completeness, accuracy and defects.
• Completes all paperwork required for the position and maintains it according to procedures.
• Communicates effectively, efficiently and appropriately with all employees and departments.
• Responsible for checking and maintaining all needed supplies for operation of equipment.
• Responsible for trash and recycled paper bins and area cleanliness and organization.
• Ensure all safety guidelines are being followed.
• Participates in periodic staff meetings and other meetings as necessary.
• Participates in training and development programs as required of the position.
• Performs a variety of miscellaneous tasks as may be required from time-to-time by management

Employment Standards
Education and Experience: Sufficient formal education such as graduation from high school to ensure the ability to read with comprehension and write would be qualifying. Completion of accredited basic welding or machinist courses is preferred. A combination of five years of experience in direct mail production maintenance setting, and/or post secondary technical trade schooling are required.

Knowledge:
• 4+ years’ experience operating Inkjet, Oce, Xerox, Ricoh or HP Indigo machines
• Prior experience in a traditional offset or web-press environment
• Strong computer skills with file-to-print process
• Technically and mechanically oriented
• Printing and/or related production experience
• Color printing experience (4-color preferably)
• Exposure to RIP software, familiarity and some working experience with mainstream desktop publishing software i.e. Adobe Acrobat Pro

• Strong aptitude and/or experience learning digital interfaces, Microsoft Office Suite and written and verbal communication skills
• Takes pride in their efforts
