Seven Generations Charter School (SGCS) is seeking applicants for a Full-Time ART TEACHER serving Grades K-8. The Art Teacher provides K-8 instruction in the specialty area of art in accordance with the PDE State Standards and implemented through the instructional lens of Environment as an Integrating Context. Ideal candidates must be PA certified.

SGCS draws students from many surrounding school districts, and our community of diverse learners from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the field of education and/or subject area.
  • Current PA Teacher Certification in one of the following:
    • Art Education PK - 12
  • Knowledge of art programming and the ability to support the development of new art education initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students and their parents/guardians with tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, families, administrators, the Board of Trustees, and community members.
  • Ability to develop, read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate the art education program.
  • Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year using our approved teacher lesson plan model.
  • Determine, obtain, utilize and create appropriate instructional resources for use in the classroom.
  • Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in using the Responsive Classroom approach for classroom management.
  • Implement our school-wide positive behavior support plan.
  • Develop methods for individualizing and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Utilize curricular resources and learning materials that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served within Seven Generations Charter School.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with Curriculum Directors and staff to ensure initiatives are being met.
  • Attend internal professional development, training sessions, staff meetings, and serve on committees as required and attend appropriate external professional development.
  • Participate in our EIC Gallery Walks, Back to School nights, and conferences.
  • Observe, evaluate, and report student's performance. Evaluate student work and assessments and maintain grade books.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Meet state- and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as clubs, games, etc.
  • Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned, such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and student arrival and dismissal.

The successful candidate should have experience teaching students within an inclusive setting. Strong student engagement, communication skills (verbal and written), excellent interpersonal skills, and strong skills applying the principles of behavior are desired.  

Applicants must provide copies of the following: cover letter, resume, PA teaching certificate, and PA Standard Teaching Application. The following paperwork is required for an interview: three letters of reference; current Child Abuse clearance, Act 34 criminal history background check, and FBI criminal history clearance.
