JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Pittsburgh Public Schools employs over 4,000 individuals in various capacities to support the academic achievement and strength of character of the students we serve. 


Under the supervision of the Accounts Payable Manager, the Accountant is responsible the daily maintenance and upkeep of all purchased submitted through the Munis system. This position reviews documentation to ensure compliance for approval. The Accountant is responsible for updating vendor addresses, 1099 forms and other pertinent information to ensure that payments are being processed appropriately.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.    Processes and maintains accounts payable records and payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures.

2.    Audit, verify, and submit to workflow all accounts payable request received from departments and schools (request for checks, contract payments, purchase orders, invoices, etc.) within the Munis Financial system.

3.    Correct accounts payable submission errors before releasing submissions for approval.

4.    Review and prepare submitted invoices into batches within the Munis Financial System to ensure Workflow Approvers can accurately evaluate requests.

5.    Analyze and review all payments to ensure the payments meet the fixed asset threshold.

6.    Compare and reconcile fixed assets in the Munis Financial system.

7.    Assist School Leaders and Secretaries in how to properly pay and receive approval for transportation bills generated through activity runs.

8.    Verify the accuracy of Port Authority bills.

9.    Assist in the preparation of paper and electronic checks to be sent to vendors.

10. Serves as a backup for accounting functions in the absence of another Accountant.

11. Document various procedures within the department and recommend improvements.

12. Provide regular updates to supervisor regarding progress towards goals and challenges to meeting goals.

13. Participate in departmental, team, and individual planning and goal setting.

14. Communicate effectively and confidentially at all levels, over the phone, face-to-face, and electronically.

15. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the Department’s goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Candidates must be enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. Candidates must be comfortable working in a team committed to better meeting the needs of our student population. In addition, we are seeking candidates with:
 
-       High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Preferred.
-       2 years preferred.
-       Experience or knowledge in utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning Software (ERP) preferred.
-       Experience maintaining electronic information files and processing paperwork.
-       Ability to perform work within defined specifications and timelines while managing conflicting priorities.
-       Demonstrated ability to analyze documents for errors and guide employees on appropriate corrective actions.
-       Ability to maintain effective working relationships with schools and departments.
-        Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Munis preferred)
-       Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
-       Ability to cultivate relationships with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.
-       Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

This position requires individuals to live in the territorial boundaries of the School District of Pittsburgh. If hired for this position you will be required to establish residence within three calendar months of your hire date with Pittsburgh Public Schools.
