Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to join our daycare. The ideal candidate will support other teachers in creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for children. This role is essential in fostering children's development through hands-on activities, outside play, individualized attention, and effective communication. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with students to enhance their literacy and math skills while implementing behavior management strategies to promote a positive classroom atmosphere.

Assistant Teacher - Daycare Job Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Support Lead Teacher – Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans, activities, and classroom routines.
  • Child Supervision – Monitor children to ensure a safe and secure environment, assisting with transitions and activities. Foster a safe and inclusive environment for all students, encouraging participation and engagement.
  • Classroom Management – Help maintain an organized, clean, and engaging classroom setting.
  • Engage with Children – Foster positive relationships through play, storytelling, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Assist with Basic Care – Support children with meals, diapering, toileting, and hygiene as needed.
  • Encourage Development – Promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth through structured and free play activities. Monitor student progress and behavior, implementing appropriate management techniques as needed.
  • Communication – Relay important information to parents, caregivers, and staff regarding child progress and daily activities. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student needs and progress.
  • Safety & Compliance – Follow daycare policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Team Collaboration – Work closely with the other teachers and staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Other Duties as Assigned – Assist with additional tasks, such as organizing and restocking materials, setting up activities, preparing beds for nap time and/or attending staff meetings.

Opening Shift Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Preparation – Set up learning centers and organize materials for the day.
  • Cleaning & Disinfecting – Sanitize toys, tables, and high-touch surfaces before children arrive.
  • Outdoor Area Maintenance – Water down the outside play area to reduce dust and create a safe play environment.
  • Meal Prep – Prepare the morning (AM) snack and ensure all food items are set up for breakfast service.

Closing Shift Responsibilities:

  • End-of-Day Cleaning – Disinfect toys, tables, chairs, and classroom materials.
  • Sanitation – Take out trash, sweep/mop floors, and clean sinks and bathrooms as needed.
  • Organize & Restock – Replenish classroom and toiletry/diaper supplies, organize materials, and reset learning areas for the next day.
  • Kitchen Duties – Clean up after meal services and ensure kitchen/food areas are properly sanitized.

Meal Preparation Responsibilities:

  • AM Snack – Prepare and serve a nutritious morning snack.
  • Lunch – Assist with preparing and serving lunch, ensuring proper portion sizes and dietary guidelines are followed.
  • PM Snack – Prepare and distribute an afternoon snack before the children are dismissed.
  • Clean-Up – Wash dishes, wipe down tables, and maintain food safety standards in the kitchen and dining area.

Skills

  • Experience working with students in preschool or daycare settings is preferred.
  • Strong background in early childhood education principles and practices.
  • Proficient in literacy education techniques to support reading and writing development.
  • Knowledge of math concepts suitable for young learners.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to implement behavior management strategies that promote positive interactions among students.
  • Experience in private school settings is a plus but not required.
  • A passion for tutoring and helping students achieve their academic goals.
