Are you a Montessori leader with an entrepreneurial drive and a thirst for social justice?

The Girasol School in Dorado, Puerto Rico seeks a Co-Lead Teacher to create and nurture our Lower Elementary (ages 6-9) or Upper Elementary (ages 9-12) classroom community.

Who We Are

The Girasol School is a new Montessori school serving 42 children in Dorado, Puerto Rico. We are the first authentic Montessori with a dual language program of mixed age groups incorporating both indoor and outdoor curriculum. Our mission is to create equitable access to quality education and we provide half of our students with subsidized tuition.

Our Network

The Girasol School is part of the network called Wildflower Schools inclusive of 10 other micro-schools in Puerto Rico and over 60 across the US mainland. The Wildflower model combines time-tested Montessori methods with promising new practices in family partnership, teacher empowerment, and intentional diversity. At Wildflower, we believe that embracing equity is an essential part of our work. We are committed to deeply engaging in what Maria Montessori called “the preparation of self” as it pertains to understanding our implicit biases, blind spots, and prejudices.

We are looking for experienced Elementary trained Montessori Guide (AMS or AMI) to co-lead a classroom, or current teachers who would like to pursue Montessori certification after having experience in a Montessori environment. You will have support from our founding Teacher Leaders and guidance from the Wildflower Montessori support team, and will join a local community of 6 other Wildflower schools spread across the island.

Our Schools

We are committed to equity, and unite diverse communities of children, families and teachers in a shared pursuit of interconnectedness, justice and peace. Because Wildflower schools blur the boundary between homeschooling and institutional schooling and between education and the rest of life, Wildflower teacher-leaders have extraordinary autonomy to extend the prepared environment to serve the needs of families, children and educators.

Your Role

  • Creating a brand new Lower or Upper Elementary environment.
  • Collaborate with our founding Teacher Leaders to develop a vision for an authentic Montessori school that serves the diversity of the local community.
  • Design and create the prepared school environment in alignment with your vision and local early childhood regulations.
  • Actively market your school to recruit and enroll children and families.

Mindset

  • Committed to Equity: You are eager to expand access to quality early education for racially and socioeconomically diverse communities; you are ready to engage in anti-bias, anti-racist self-work and community-work
  • Generous: You live with kindness, practice gratitude and lead with love. You seek advice openly and are comfortable working in a non-hierarchical organization.
  • Growth Oriented: You are eager to stretch beyond your current experience, to develop new skills and expertise, and to more fully explore your purpose and potential.

Experience

  • A deep commitment to authentic Montessori (3+ years experience with MACTE accredited certification preferred) or a desire to become Montessori trained with extensive Montessori classroom experience (5+ years experience required)
  • Willingness to work hard and a self starter
  • A desire to learn and grow
  • Candidates must be fluent in English and Spanish to connect with families that we will serve

Hours & Benefits

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience. The Girasol School will pay for your MACTE accredited certification, opportunities for ongoing professional development, and connection to the wider Wildflower community and supports.
