Carmel Swim Academy is looking for responsible, energetic individuals who are seeking flexible hours in a fun, fast-paced environment. Lifeguarding requires professional and dependable individuals. If you are enthusiastic, love people and the water - this could be the perfect place for you.

Lifeguards must maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and the surrounding areas, and create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Carmel Swim Academy policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Performs as a leader and role model for other staff members and patrons.
  • Shows up for work in the correct uniform, on time, and ready to work.
  • Knows and practices all emergency procedures and responds accordingly, which includes attending all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the aquatic area.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Must hold the following certifications:
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
    • AED
    • First Aid
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with American Red Cross standards.

Scheduling

  • This position’s shifts are scheduled on a monthly basis.
  • Lifeguards are responsible for turning in their availability for the following month on time to be put on the schedule.
  • Shifts are three to four hours long.
  • Shifts are scheduled between 4:45 AM and 9 PM Sunday through Saturday.
  • Shifts are scheduled at both Carmel High School (520 East Main Street, Carmel IN) and Carmel Swim Academy (830 City Center Drive, Carmel IN)

Compensation

  • Starting compensation is determined based on experience. All CSA staff are regularly reviewed to progress in the levels through their employment.
    • Level 1: $12 per hour
      • Individuals with no experience working as a lifeguard.
    • Level 2: $13-$15 per hour
      • Individuals with experience working as a lifeguard at an aquatics facility
    • Level 3: $15-$18 per hour
      • Individuals who are 18 or older, and have one or more of the following:
        • Worked as a lifeguard for two or more years
        • Will work early morning shifts
        • Wanting to work 20 hours or more each week
