Job Title: Assistant Manager

Location: Uplift - 210 S First Street, Ann Arbor (Downtown)

Job Type: Part-Time

Salary: $17-$20/hour

The Opportunity:

Uplift, a new vibrant queer bar, is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to help oversee our operations.

At Uplift, we’re building a neighborhood bar that serves our community by creating exceptional guest experiences with engaging customer service and thoughtful, entertaining programming. As the Assistant Manager, you will report to the General Manager and oversee operations during busy periods and/or when the GM is away.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with management of day-to-day operations
  • Lead opening and/or closing activities
  • Train and supervise bar staff
  • Ensure compliance with all health and alcohol regulation laws.
  • Ensure safety/security procedures are being followed
  • Monitor and assure appropriate and honest behavior of staff, including accurate pour volume and disciplined use of the POS.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene, and health and safety
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints
  • Occasionally lead daily operations, supported by owners, when GM is on leave
  • Prepare weekly schedules and plans, as needed.
  • Collaborate with vendors and event coordinators, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Bar Manager, Assistant Manager, or Senior Bartender
  • Strong communication, motivational, and people skills
  • A customer-focused mindset.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and one or more POS systems 
  • In-depth knowledge of managing all daily operations of the bar 
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English; additional languages a plus 
  • TIPS certification or equivalent[3] 
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job, including lifting heavy items and standing for long periods
  • Participate in mandatory health, safety and Uplift-specific training
  • Comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations for restaurants and bars 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working within LGBTQ+ community spaces.
