TITLE: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST – AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM JOB CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME TEMPORARY NON-EXEMPT
LOCATION / PAY / HOURS: AUBURN / $17 - $17.25 per hour / 15-30hrs/week

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Partners with the Site Director and other Youth Development Specialists in supervising and supporting the development of Club members through summer camp programs. Plans, implements, and supervises youth development activities provided within a specific program area, such as recreation, sports, arts, STEAM, social-emotional learning, leadership, and field trips. Upholds and models the Mission and Values of the Boys & Girls Club of Placer County.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create a positive Club environment
- Promote and stimulate program participation
- Provide a wide range of skill-building opportunities
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and role modeling to members
Program Development and Implementation
- Plan, prepare, and implement high-quality programs, services, and activities for drop-in members
- Supervise programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members, enrichment, and quality of programs
Supervision
- Ensure a safe environment by carefully maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies
- Ensure members' safe, fun, and engaging participation through the promotion of positive behavior and interactions, proactive redirection, and conflict resolution.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May participate in special programs and events
- Additional duties as assigned by the Site or Program Director
SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work and volunteer experience
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- Ability to deal with the general public
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
- Ability to manage oneself in a positive, productive, and professional way
- Ability to follow and model policies and procedures
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid certification (Club offered JUNE 2024)
- Upon hire, complete BGCA and CA Mandatory child abuse and reporting training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:
- lead physical fitness and recreation programs
- regularly reach with hands and arms, and to talk and hear
- stoop or kneel
- frequently walk, stand, and sit
- occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- and specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
