Description:
Long Term Substitute Grade 1 (November 2024 - April 2025)

Job Summary:
Kent Center School is seeking a candidate to teach in the elementary grades who have high academic expectations and believe that all children can achieve them. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the CT Core Standards as well as the pedagogical and assessment practices that support the successful student attainment of expected learning outcomes. A strong understanding of literacy and numeracy development as well as data collection in these areas is essential. Additionally, the candidate must be able to explain their understanding of tiered intervention strategies and their experience with an RTI process. The successful candidates must also be strong collaborators and be able to articulate their beliefs about how to contribute to a positive and energized school climate and culture. This includes a clearly exhibited care for all students and a strong belief that every student can achieve success. A demonstration lesson may be part of the interview and selection process.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree
  • CT Certification in Grades 1-6 endorsement (305) or other applicable certification
  • Must be able to submit and pass federal, state, and DCF background checks and submit current/previous employment verification per State of CT Statutes.
  • Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the first day of employment.
  • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Evidence of organizational ability and willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Various Other Requirements:?

  • Physical Stamina: Must be able to move around the classroom, stand for extended periods, lift 25 lbs., crouch, kneel, and assist students with various tasks.
  • Clear Communication: Need to effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents, both verbally and in writing.
  • Classroom Management: Ability to manage the classroom environment, maintain discipline, and ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • ?Mental and Emotional Stability: Ability to remain calm under pressure and be capable of handling the challenges of a dynamic school environment.
