JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title:               Project Architect

 

Reports to:     President/Design Principal (DP)

 

Date:               2024

 

Experience/Skills Required:  Minimum 10 years of successful experience in design and construction or renovation of retail, restaurants and office interiors.  Computer skills include expertise in AutoCAD 2007 or higher, Revit and knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Project.  Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and an internal motivation to push projects to completion on or ahead of schedule and on or under budget.  Commitment to quality is essential.

 

Areas of Responsibility: Responsible to ensure the design team functions effectively and efficiently across the entire design process, from site surveys, creation of schematic designs, completion of full construction drawings including coordination of MEP, structural and other required engineering.  Responsible for ensuring projects are completed per schedule, within budget, meet profit projections and quality standards.  Manage design team(s) to ensure schedules are met and quality is maintained. 

 

Level of Authority:  Varies depending on level required to accomplish task.  Generally, will have direct supervision of architectural staff as required to maintain work flow and company objectives including performance reviews and recommendation on staffing needs

 

Project Support:  Interface with clients, FD principals, Architects, staff, and project related consultants to determine the nature and scope of tasks necessary to implement the design, bidding and construction of projects, specifically:

 

  1. Develop overall design, construction scope and schedule for projects.
  2. Form project team to accomplish project tasks.
  3. Develop design program with client and others on project team.
  4. Coordinate all engineering into the design process.
  5. Create detailed space survey including all MEP elements.
  6. Create schematic design and color board(s) based on meeting client.
  7. Revise schematic design as detailed by the client.
  8. Perform code review on schematic design as well as final construction documents.
  9. Upon receipt of approved schematic design, proceed to design development or construction drawings.  Complete all phases within agreed-upon time or provide early notification of scheduling difficulty in order to advise client of same.
  10. Coordinate in detail the work of all engineers on each project and ensure all engineering drawings are consistent with the design intent of the project and coordinated with the architectural drawings.
  11. Ensure all requirements for plan submittal are met prior to submitting plans for permit.
  12. Submit plans through permit process, with help of permit expediter if necessary and monitor progress daily.  Create and/or maintain permitting log.
  13. Prepare any revisions required by the local jurisdiction in a timely fashion but not later than 48 hours after receipt of comments from the local jurisdiction.
  14. Coordinate the final release of the plans to the client with DP to ensure billing and payment cycles are complete.
  15. Set up and maintain a system to log in all contractor’s questions, RFIs, and/or submittals and ensure timely and accurate responses are made in writing. 
  16. Periodically review standard general notes to ensure accuracy and to manage design risk.
  17. Set up and maintain a training program for younger staff members with assistance and approval of DP and other resources.
  18. Develop and active understanding of MEP basic requirements, formulas, calculations, etc.
  19. Assist DP in creation of a library of current reference materials including finish samples and current code information.
  20. Keep up to date with current code changes.
  21. When working in a foreign jurisdiction, ensure you self-educate on the local requirements and codes prior to submitting plans to the local jurisdiction.
  22. Read trade journals to keep up to date on design trends and other interior design elements.
  23. Follow up with client to ensure client's satisfaction.

 

General Office Support: Work with the principals of the company and office support staff in developing policies and/or procedures to make to Company more efficient and effective.  Specifically:

 

  1. Ensure the architectural work area is consistently neat and orderly.
  2. Ensure that the resources of the company are being effectively utilized at all time.
  3. Assist the DP in developing yearly operating budget for the company.

Complete miscellaneous non-project related tasks as assigned from time-to-time by the DP.
