CASA is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and managing affordable housing to support successful living. Since 1992, we have focused on providing affordable housing for extremely low-income families, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. We manage over 570 affordable apartments and homes across Wake, Durham, and Orange counties, with more than 150 new units currently in development. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CASA operates with a $6.8 million budget funded through rental income, philanthropic contributions, and government support.

Position Overview:
The King's Ridge Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the King’s Ridge team through volunteer management, lease-up efforts, event planning, and the building's grand opening. Reporting directly to the Director of King’s Ridge, this role offers hands-on experience in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Key Functions:

Volunteer Management

 

  • Collaborate with King’s Ridge staff to coordinate and organize volunteer activities leading up to the building's opening.
  • Liaise with the Green Chair Project for the delivery and organization of supplies.
  • Train and manage corporate volunteer groups to assemble and distribute supply baskets.
  • Organize and supervise Enloe High School volunteers for Charity Ball-related activities.
  • Lead volunteer teams in setting up furniture for the 100 apartment units and common areas.

 

 

Events

 

  • Assist in planning and executing the King’s Ridge grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside the Director of Mission Advancement.

Leasing

 

  • Support the Leasing Staff and referral partners in processing applications.
  • Conduct tours for approved applicants.

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

 

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and process-oriented thinking.
  • Understanding of issues related to poverty, housing, and homelessness.
  • Ability to connect with diverse individuals, including donors, people with disabilities, and social service partners.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Reliable, positive, and eager to learn.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with or experience in the nonprofit sector is a plus.
