Job purpose 

 

The Clinical Support Specialist promotes the mission of Ascendant NY Treatment Center and provides treatment and support to Ascendant NY clients and their families.  The CSS carries workloads of which will include one on one check-ins, observing groups, crisis intervention, and will escort patients to outings and outside meetings.  Meets productivity standards as set by the department. Provides direct services to adult clients. When observing a group, the CSS engages and motivates group members in a manner that is beneficial to the group member and enhances his/her participation in the group. Leads discussions and facilitates group activities as relevant to group issues and topics. Demonstrates an understanding of group dynamics. Identifies symptoms of health, mental health and substance use conditions and responds accordingly. must act as a leader and a role model for the clients, while demonstrating integrity, professionalism, proper boundaries, and ethics. 

 

Duties and responsibilities 

 

  • Responsible peer check-ins to discuss effective coping skills and assist patients in identifying the reasons for their addiction and overcoming the problems related to the addiction. 
  • Responsible for assisting residents to live more effectively with their addictions by identifying harmful behaviors and overcoming urges.  
  • Demonstrate an understanding of patient care through charting and documenting resident progress and provide service referrals when needed.  
  • Review patient analysis, random drug tests, community outings and outside meetings.  
  • Ensure clients attend all scheduled groups and therapy sessions. 
  • Orient new clients to the facility, and ensure the clients understand the material, and signs all required intake documents. 
  • Maintain a consistent and open channel of communication with Charge BHT and Program Director.  
  • Responsible for answering phone calls and respond to emails professionally and able to transfer calls and take messages when needed. 
  •  Understand HIPAA, Confidential Information Release policy, and is able to follow this policy to ensure the clients’ and staff are protected. 
  • Maintain professional relationships with the residents, families, and visitors. 
  • Escort Patients when transported to ER and escort patients to outside facility appointments.  
  • Complete safety call with patient and document in EMR.  
  • Take patient off site to meetings, outings, walks and off site activities as requested. 
  • Order and organize all necessities for facility.  
  • Required to wear uniform, carry key card, and always carry Narcan when on property. 
  • Perform any other duties as needed
