About Us

Karmê Chöling is a Buddhist meditation center located in Barnet, VT. Established in 1970, Karmê Chöling offers mindfulness programs in a welcoming community setting for both new and experienced practitioners in Shambhala meditation. 

Overview

The Guest Services Associate is often the first point of contact for participants, guests, and those inquiring about Karmê Chöling. Being flexible and having a good sense of humor is a must! This is a customer service and hospitality position where you work closely with many different kinds of people. The Guest Services Associate reports to the Guest Services Director.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, residents, and staff with a professional and friendly demeanor
  • Assist with registration of guests and visitors in person, over the phone, and through email
  • Answer questions regarding housing, payment plans, program information, travel information and general guest services
  • Help prepare materials and assist on guest arrival days for programs
  • Make appropriate entries into computer system using OMNIS and other software
  • Sort incoming mail and place in respective mailboxes
  • Take payments, sell stamps, and make change
  • Track and manage office supplies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to create an inviting and helpful environment
  • Neat professional appearance
  • Ability to work calmly and kindly under pressure
  • Excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented and efficient
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled at using computers and standard email and office applications, including Google and Microsoft Suites
  • Experience with handling payments
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate a program schedule
  • Established connection with the Shambhala Buddhist path of practice and study

Salary/Compensation

  • Monthly stipend commensurate with experience
  • Room and board, including a personal room, daily meals, and access to community spaces, such as staff “exercise” room
  • 28 personal days per year
  • Free access to qualifying programs
  • Supports for meditation practice, including a personal Meditation Instructor and time dedicated to meditation in the daily schedule
  • A generous guest policy
