Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate educator who enjoys working with students to join our team as an Instructor. This full-time or part-time position involves providing tutoring and guidance to students from Kindergarten through 8th grade in both academic and extracurricular activities. The ideal candidate will create a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and personally. Instructors also oversee the classroom participants, Teaching Aides, and Volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tutoring and assistance with homework, reading, writing, and other academic assignments in a small school environment.
- Create a safe and nurturing environment for students to develop both academically and personally.
- Implement engaging lesson plans that encourage student participation and learning.
- Participate in leisure extracurricular activities such as arts exploration, performing arts, initiation to sports, or Spanish.
- Flexibility to move between different locations in the same county or area.
- Provide a secure, safe environment for campers with a supportive atmosphere.
- Review Florida Skills Club-designed curriculum before each lesson.
- Implement planned activities, experiments, and crafts.
- Maintain classroom schedules and structure, including utilizing appropriate class management strategies.
- Work as a team member to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain privileged or confidential information about authorized users and children.
- Work closely with Teaching Aides and volunteers to deliver classes.
- Complete and hand in written reports (incident reports, discipline logs, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Communicate with the Coordinator regularly.
- Aid with the distribution and collection of camp evaluations.
- Attend mandatory orientation and training sessions prior to the start of camp.
**Requirements:**
- A minimum of 2 years of college completed; however, a Bachelor's in education or sports field is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary age children.
- Experience with education.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, sound judgment, and flexibility.
- CPR and First Aid Certified by the first day.
- Preferred: Experience working in a camp or after-school program (demonstrable).
- Preferred: Teaching certificate or previous teaching experience.
**Skills and Abilities:**
Applicants should have strong experience working with youth in either a public or private classroom setting or leisure or sports activities or other learning camp setting. They should have strong classroom management skills, knowledge of school topics, and the ability to provide fun, interactive, and engaging activities. The Camp Instructor will be working with Teaching Aides and volunteers. Therefore, it is imperative that the applicant comes to camp ready to lead, delegate, and exhibit an energetic attitude.
**Working Conditions and Physical Effort:**
- Work generally involves moving around the school premises, frequent use of stairs with potential for light lifting.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- This position requires working with tools using appropriate personal protective equipment.
**Clearance Requirements (Camp Instructor):**
- Level 2 background clearance as defined by the Florida Statutes/law.
- Drug screening as part of the Drug-Free Workplace Program.
