*Candidates will be required to provide a valid Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.*

Assistant Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Review lesson plans from the Alveary (and other provided) curriculum in advance.
  • Help to ensure that supplies are prepared for upcoming lessons.
  • Commit to being fully present (physically and mentally) each school day. (We understand there may be the need for occasional sick days. etc.)
  • Lead certain lessons with a small group of 8 students or less.  Assist the director with other lessons in a larger group.
  • Keep lessons short and to their specified time (avoid carrying on conversations with students beyond the designated subject time, allow them to continue wondering and discuss after school or in the next lesson of that subject).
  • Understand the value and purpose of narration and require it (in some form) at every lesson).
  • Avoid questions with “one right answer”.  Guide discussions with open-ended questions, allowing students to form their own relationships with ideas presented through their books and lessons.
  • Collaborate with the director to learn and implement the principles of Charlotte Mason.
  • Become familiar with the Alveary website and resources.
  • Prepare for and assist with administering exams (3 times/school year).

  • Help facilitate a cooperative and encouraging educational environment for all students.
  • Conduct the classroom with authority led by kindness and calm.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order.
  • Serve as a role model of Christ’s love, grace, and humility.  Model appropriate speech, mannerisms, dress, discipline, and general performance.
