Summary: The Master Gardener Specialist is responsible for overall landscape maintenance and garden planning. Oversee efficient productivity and timely completion of duties in assigned areas. Physically perform garden labor. Work in all weather conditions. Contribute to team effort.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Physically perform general landscape maintenance for all garden areas, including planting, mowing, weeding, watering (monitoring system), fertilizing, spraying, minor irrigation repairs, pruning, pest control, and hedge trimming.
  • Ensure gardens are spectacular for weddings & events
  • Plan undeveloped areas of the garden, submit a budget for improvements, and carry out plan.
  • Responsible for securing all equipment at the end of the day and notifying Director of supply needs.
  • Apply pesticides using appropriate safety procedures as provided and according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Monitor irrigation system and pump systems, repair minor problems, and report malfunctions.
  • Assist in group and special projects as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements: 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks through use of effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.  Daylight hours only.
  • Ability to effectively organize workflow for timely completion and develop staff to work as a team; maintain professional work ethic.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs; repetitively bend/stoop, move across property and work in all weather conditions and follow approved safety guidelines.
  • Driver’s license required to operate garden vehicles.
  • Must have own transportation. Must have reliable transportation.
  • Horticulture degree or experience a plus.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Subject to outside and inside environmental conditions; extreme heat, noise, and vibrations.

Hours:  Monday - Thursday

20 to 30 hours/week

$15 to $18/hour
