True North K12 Learning is seeking teachers for the 2024-2025 Academic Year to teach/mentor students K-12 who are considered high risk and/or have special needs. The student to teacher ratio is approximately 3:2. 

This position begins September 2024. 

True North Teacher/Mentors guide students through academic instruction as well as other modalities, such as social-emotional activities, art, independent study and physical education activities. 

True North K12 Learning operates out of the Adeline Wright Graham Boys & Girls Club. in Schenenctady, NY. 

True North students attend from 9:00am to 1:30pm Monday through Friday, and teachers attend 8:30 to 1:45 following the Schenectady City Schools Academic Calendar. 

Teacher/Mentors may choose to work on a full-time basis (25 hours per week) or part-time basis as a job share with another teacher/mentor. The rate of pay is $35 per hour depending on enrolled students and candidate qualifications. ​

Qualifications and Responsibilities: NYS Teaching Certification or working towards NYS Certification preferred. Non-NY Teaching Certifications will also be considered. Experience working with high risk and/or special needs children at the Primary and Secondary School Level. Ability to build rapport with students and think creatively. Sufficient knowledge of core educational subjects and modalities used with students K-12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience, ability and patience to work with students with an IEP and/or Special Needs or at-risk students. 

This position is a sub-contractor position and does not include benefits such as health insurance or retirement incentives.
