The Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation is seeking a part-time assistant to work with Tor House staff in its on-site archives. The Archival Assistant will work closely with the Archive Supervisor to catalog, protect, and preserve the Foundation's historical materials, including books, photographs, audiovisual media, furniture, and artifacts.


-----Job Duties and Responsibilities-----
The Archival Assistant will assist the Archive Supervisor by:
• Checking items in to inventory using an online archive (web application);
• Tagging and labeling inventory items;
• Identifying the following and bringing them to the attention of the Archive Supervisor for review:
o Damaged items; items in need of repair;
o Unprotected items or items that are not well enough protected; and
o Uncataloged/unknown items.
• Adding material from existing printed sources to the online archive;
• Adding keywords and missing information (e.g., provenance) to inventory items in the online archive; and
• Identifying duplicates and missing data in the online archive.
 

-----Qualifications-----
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in history, an eye for detail, and be responsible, reliable, and thorough. Although no previous experience is necessary, basic familiarity with computers is required.
 

-----Hours and Pay-----
The position requires between 10 and 20 hours per week, including a mandatory 9:30 - 2:30 on-site shift every Saturday at Tor House in Carmel, and is anticipated to last approximately 6 months, with a possible extension if need dictates. Some work can be performed remotely. The pay is $25 per hour.
