BAHIA was established by and for Latino families in 1975 as a non profit organization. BAHIA is currently the only full-time; Latino nonprofit in Berkeley providing bilingual (Spanish-English) childcare and education to children ages 2-10 years of age.
Children are at the heart of BAHIA’s continued mission; to provide familias with a nurturing, dual-language learning community, where children emerge as engaged contributors to a global society. Job Summary Site Supervisor for Centro VIDA Program
The site supervisor for Centro VIDA will work under the direct supervision of the program director and executive director. This position is multifaceted and targets three distinct yet interrelated components: educators, young children, and families, each with their own requirements and goals. The site supervisor engages and supports all three components. The program director and the site supervisor work closely with teachers to establish a play based curriculum and environment which promotes dual language learning through curiosity and exploration. Ideal candidates will have deep commitment to dual-language and passion for learning along with a growth mindset, documenting learning (i.e.DRDP), knowledge of child development, love and respect for young children and their capabilities, and interest in community involvement. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to state, federal, and program policies l
- Engage in clear and direct communication with educators, children, and families
- Actively work to maintain practices that enable equity and social justice
- Maintain a presence and bond with and within the community by attending events and other
- Execute developmentally appropriate activities for the development of all domains (dual-language learning, social-emotional, physical, cognitive) for toddlers and preschool children ages 2-5.
- Work with the Program Director on developing trainings i.e. DRDP, ECERS, CLASS
- Inspect children’s facilities (indoors and outdoors) for safety and report unsafe conditions to the program director.
- Support and assist parents in obtaining resources and services to support their children’s needs.
- Steps into the classrooms as needed for support and coverage of ratio requirements
- Keep abreast of developments in the field of education
- Alongside directors plans a yearly parent orientation (in the fall.)
- Meets twice a year with directors for staff performance evaluations.
- Works with the Program Director in hiring and interviewing for open positions.
In addition to these various tasks and responsibilities, Centro VIDA Site Supervisor is expected to follow state regulations, licensing requirements, and BAHIA Inc. policies and procedures to maintain compliance and ensure the health and safety of children. Responsibilities and duties may change as needed.
Qualifications
- Hold or Meet requirements for Site Supervisor Child Development Permit
- Four or more years of successful supervision of toddler/preschool in a state preschool program (preferred).
- Working with dual language learners and families.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Deep understanding of conflict resolution skills and social emotional needs of children
- An understanding of trauma informed practice is preferred
Education:
- BA or higher in Education or Early Childhood related field
- Knowledgeable in Word, Excel and Google Drive
Other requirements:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Clearance of background check, physical health screening and TB test in accordance with state regulations.
- Maintains proper, valid certification and training for administering a childcare center in accordance with agency, local, state and federal requirements including but not limited to: Mandated reporter training, workplace violence prevention
- Must provide proof of immunizations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle and manipulate toys, equipment, and classroom materials.
- Visual and auditory ability to monitor and supervise children in various settings.
Most of the job is performed in the classrooms which requires moving throughout the space and alternating between sitting and walking. A portion of the job is performed in a standard office, extensive and ongoing typing while sitting at the computer, some lifting, and some driving.
