POSITION SUMMARY
The West Cook YMCA is launching a new summer program, ESPORTS, for 4th-8th graders. A competitive sport through a video game requiring the use of strategy, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills to achieve individual or team success. It’s bigger than ‘just gaming’. YMCA ESPORTS coach will create a safe and welcoming atmosphere to encourage youth to be who they are, excel at what they love, and develop the social, strategic, and problem-solving skills necessary to grow into thriving adults all in a safe, moderated, and inclusive environment. The West Cook YMCA wants you to Level up your game and join Esports at the Y this summer hosted on the Dominican University Campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in enrichment programs by providing close supervision of all activities.
- Create an atmosphere where all participants can have fun, are safe and learn, promote good sportsmanship, build a sense of belonging, relationship, and achievement.
- Maintain accurate program documentation (program evaluation, incident, accident and behavior reports, attendance and sign-in / sign-out sheets, competition records, etc.).
- Keep immediate supervisor informed of any concerns or problems regarding program participants or facilities.
- Maintain an organized workspace, by taking responsibility for the upkeep of equipment, supplies, materials, and program rooms.
- Represents the YMCA and maintains appropriate relationships with members, parents and youth.
- Recruiting and retaining participants for the Esports program.
- Conducting coaching and instruction activities during training, practice, and competition.
- Ensuring team compliance with all league rules and regulations.
- Ensures age-appropriate activities and lessons and incorporates the workforce development curriculum to encourage and engage young people in building skills that will support potential future career opportunities.
- Serves as a positive role model to all participants.
- Perform all safety and emergency procedures as needed, and other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND REQUISITES
- Associate or bachelor’s degree is required, youth development, sports, recreational, educational or another related field.
- One or more years prior experience working with school-aged children (ages 5-12) or middle school students.
- Knowledge of rules and experience teaching basic Esports skills.
- At least one-year of competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of Rocket League, NBA 2K, Smash Brothers, or similar games.
- Ability to handle questions, complaints and concerns from staff, members, and participants in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Withing 60 days of hire required to be certified in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED and child safety training.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
COMPENSATION:
$18-$20.00 based on certification and years of experience.
