TITLE:                          Summer Program Leader                           

PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE:    Youth Development Professional

DEPARTMENT:           Program

REPORTS TO:              Program Director(s)/Director of Academics

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Summer Program Leaders plan and implement program content for the summer day camp program. They create a fun, safe environment by engaging with members, encouraging participation, and evaluating outcomes within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship, and Life Skills and Workforce Readiness.

STANDARD JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

  • Promote and stimulate program participation and engagement
  • Facilitate a safe and fun environment that values respect, honesty, integrity, and other core values that promote the development of great character in our members.
  • Provide guidance and role modelling to members, especially as they work through conflict, navigate friendships, strive for academic success, and live healthy lifestyles.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Monitor and evaluate the program frequently to ensure child and Club safety, high quality programming, and good appearance of the Club at all times.
  • Create effective lesson plans with the guidance of their supervisor and BGCWCL curriculum that are focused on the “why” or outcome of the lesson. Why is what we learned important and how can it help us in life? Implement those plans with members in the Club setting daily.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings
  • May serve in designated roles for special events/provides staffing to Club functions.

Maintain Positive Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct and advise/counsel.
  • External: Maintain contact with external community groups, school faculty, Club families, and others to assist in resolving conflict issues.

ADDITIONAL CLUB-SPECIFIC DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Participation and/or scheduling special programs and/or events
  • Light cleaning and organizing of program spaces
  • Incident reporting and administrative duties as assigned
  • Engage volunteers as needed, relative to program activities
  • Assist to prepare periodic program reports

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Summer Program Leader

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children and/or knowledge of youth development
  • Ability to motivate youth through effective classroom management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification (or to obtain within 6 months of date of employment, and annually thereafter)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Youth Development Professionals are required to be on their feet for long periods of time, often for more than an hour at a time. They must also be able to lift at least twenty-five (25) pounds.
