Position: part-time or full-time

Description:

Depending on the applicant’s experience, this position could be part-time or full-time. A full-time position candidate will work both in the farmstand as a clerk and in the gardens. A part-time position may work either at the farmstand or at the small farm operation, depending on their experience. The individual must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner, while unsupervised at times.

Duties:

For both positions, applicant must be capable of physical labor in inclement weather, frequent heavy lifting, effective phone and in-person communication, and computer skills.

Farmstand clerk: duties include superior customer service, produce rotation/re-stocking, maintaining inventory, creating retail displays, occasional product management in sub-zero freezer space, data entry, and administrative duties. Experience with Microsoft Office is required, and Point of Sale experience is preferred.

Garden assistant: position requires equipment operation including walk-behind tiller, tractor, weed-eater, backpack blower, power tools, etc. Outdoor work is expected during all seasons including harvest and post-harvest duties, weeding, transplanting, irrigation, up-potting, trellising, small livestock care, and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

Farmstand clerk: Customer service experience is required as well as a basic knowledge of produce. This position will interact with customers in a way that requires the ability to talk knowledgeably about growing, raising, storing, and preparing food.

Garden assistant: position requires farming and/or gardening experience. This position entails repetitive physical work including lifting, bending, and standing and as such, requires the individual maintain their physical needs by dressing properly, hydrating, taking breaks as needed, and practicing good ergonomics. Ability to drive a truck and trailer and effectively back a trailer is a bonus. Candidate needs to have experience with and be efficient using garden tools such as hula hoes, fork and spade, rakes, tine weeders, etc. Construction and mechanical skills are a plus!

Starting hourly rate: $18-20/hour, DOE. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. All new employees have a 60-day probationary period.
