SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Camp Site Supervisor, a camp counselor is responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for the campers enrolled in the Upper Providence Township summer camp program. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:

Camp counselors must be outgoing, energetic, creative, organized, and have some experience working with children.  They should have a strong understanding of customer service and should be committed to work the entire summer (June 17-August 2, not including July 1-5; including mandatory staff orientation June 14).  This is the perfect job for students or teachers who need a fun summer job with guaranteed 40 hours a week and evening/weekends off!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise and ensure well-being of all campers within assigned group, presenting a positive role model through all interactions.
  2. Communicate effectively with campers, other counselors, Site Supervisor, and Recreation Coordinator.  Being able to provide updates to parents where required and answering questions about camp.
  3. Plan, implement, and lead a variety of recreation activities including sports, arts, crafts, enrichment, and more.
  4. Ensure quality customer service through positive interactions with campers, staff, guardians, and the public.
  5. Always maintain highest level of safety and risk management.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  1. Experience working with children.
  2. Up to date Pennsylvania Background Check, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance
  3. CPR/First Aid (employer will provide an opportunity for training)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  1. Bending, kneeling, and reaching items off floor and shelves.  Ability to lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds in equipment or supplies.
  2. Physically able to participate in active games throughout the day.  Able to demonstrate and participate in activities like games, singing, dancing, sports, and arts/crafts.
  3. Able to sit on the floor or stand for sustained periods of time while interacting and playing games with the children.
  4. Able to go to the pool or playground area and supervise children in the area.
  5. Employee will be required to work outside during various weather conditions, particularly during hot temperatures.
