Job Description:

Under medical supervision, the Respiratory Therapist delivers respiratory care services to patients throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include measuring lung capacity, analyzing blood samples, delivering therapy, monitoring patient response, responding to emergencies, educating patients and

families, and maintaining equipment and supplies. The Respiratory Therapist may also be responsible for supervising other practitioners and providing orientation and in-service education.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Measure lung capacity and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures.
  • Respond to codes and emergent calls for assistance.
  • Educate patients and families about illnesses and community resources.
  • Maintain respiratory care supplies and equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Care programme.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (to be obtained within 30 days).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certifications (to be obtained within 6 months).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc.
  • Licensed by the State of West Virginia.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and related sciences.
  • Demonstrated the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
