Private Boat Captain in Bear Lake Seasonal Job

Summary:

The Boat Captain has the responsibility for the overall delivery of the watersports experience at the lake including operation of the boat and equipment. This also includes instruction of watersports while ensuring the guest’s safety and enjoyment of their experience. This position will also be required to perform maintenance and cleaning of equipment and supplies. Work schedule will often include weekends and long hours. Must be able to commute or relocate to Bear Lake for the summer. Must have a truck that can tow an Axis T-250

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure delivery of exceptional guest experience for all guests.
  • Launch boat and perform proper inspection before guests arrival
  • Remove boat and thoroughly disinfect and maintain equipment, interior, and exterior at the end of the day.
  • Physical operation of the boat and responsible for its maintenance and care.
  • Manages inventory of all equipment and ensures all is in working order and safely operated.
  • Work directly with clients and guests on coordination of their experiences at Bear Lake.
  • Maintains a neat appearance and a professional manner.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the daily activities and schedules of guests
  • Assists in maintaining a safe working environment for all.
  • Responds to emergency situations received by radio, telephone and personal request.
  • Responsible for boat cleanliness, organization and general appearance.
  • Instructs guests on water sports while ensuring guest’s safety and enjoyment of their experience.
  • Responsible for ensuring each guest is property outfitted with equipment prior to boat operation.
  • Support requests of management group in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain proficiency in all areas as it pertains to his/her area(s) of responsibilities.
  • Outdoor work conditions will involve weather, noise, and hazardous materials.
  • Required to often work extended periods of time.

Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to adapt to changes in a fast paced, dynamic, and sometimes intense work environment
  • Ability to use or learn to use the following equipment: computer, printer etc.; telephone, two-way radio and other necessary equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Possession of CPR and lifeguard certification in Utah.
  • Possession of Utah boaters license.
  • Possession of Utah Captains License.
  • Knowledge and background in boat operation and water sports.
  • Knowledge in all watersports, Wakeboarding, wake surfing, skiing, etc.
  • Knowledge of all equipment that is used in each watersport.
  • Ability to train/instruct guests on watersports. Ex. (Teach someone how to wake surf)
  • Ability to provide coaching in a way that appeals to the guests.

Working Conditions / Physical requirements (if applicable)

  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching.
  • Must be able to work outside in heat, the boat has Bimini Cover.
  • Must be able to work any day of the week/long hours.
  • Must be able to commit to an entire summer.
  • Must be able to commute or relocate to Bear Lake for the summer
