The Wrangler position is one of the most vital jobs on the ranch because you are the face of best in class service and will be a part of our main attraction – the horses! More about Spotted Horse Ranch and the Wrangler position:

Our season runs from May through the end of October, and we are seeking those who can work the entire season.  We do make some exceptions for those that cannot commit to the entire season. The Wrangler staff is offered an end-of season bonus if they stay for the duration of their contract. Included in the salary package is shared housing and 3 meals a day during your employment. You are expected to live on the ranch during your employment.

Example of Wrangler team responsibilities:

The Wrangler team is expected to take GREAT pride in their work and be available to maintain their responsibilities with enthusiasm and attention to detail. It is also imperative that you are professional while on property during and while you are off shift. You will be a part of a hard working team and we expect clear communication so that we deliver exceptional service. Day to day responsibilities can change and you must be able to adapt and be resourceful.

Wrangler duties include:

  • As a wrangler, you are ubiquitous to the ranch and our guests look to you for your guidance and to keep them safe while around the horses. 
  • Arrive to your shift early, prepared and expect to take on whatever is needed with a positive attitude. The work is labor intensive in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions. You’ll be required to handle the physical elements of the job safely and proficiently. 
  • Provide riding instruction to all levels of riders.
  • Maintain cleanliness of ranch grounds by removal of horse manure in a timely manner.
  • Be self-motivated in keeping the barn organized and performing tack maintenance. 
  • Cross train as a shuttle driver for shuttling guests in the ranch vehicles as needed for airport/town transportation, whitewater rafting trips, rodeo evenings, and trips to Astoria Hot Springs
  • Demonstrate best in class customer service to guests of all ages.
  • Tend to and doctoring injured horses in a timely manner.
  • Assisting in set up and break down hunting camps at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Fixing fences, working with irrigation, loading hay and other ranch maintenance that requires heavy lifting.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Ensuring the guests' safety always!
