POSITION TITLE: Long-Term Substitute Teacher Aide
REPORTS TO: Elementary Principal
LOCATION: Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Pittsburgh, PA
JOB
DESCRIPTION: This is a long-term substitute position. Responsibilities include
working with a teaching staff to assist in carrying out educational
programs for a student, provides coverage in classroom when needed
during IEP meetings and at other times, assists with teaching and
reinforcing of living skills, reinforces behavior programs and plans that
may be in place for a student, assists with transporting student from
place to place when needed, acts as an assistant to the teacher in
helping to reinforce any academic, social, emotional or behavioral goals
on the student’s IEP, assists in maintaining data for student
programming purposes.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: PA State Police Criminal Clearance, PA Child Abuse History Clearance,
FBI Clearance, Act 82.
Valid PA Driver’s License required.
Associate’s degree with general training or experience in child
development and/or experience working with deaf children is preferable.
The individual must be familiar with needs of deaf students.
The Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for this position is
“Advanced.” The minimum level accepted at hire is “Intermediate.”
