DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Position Description

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 

Start Date: Immediate

 

Summary: The Director of Communications, with the support of Justice 4 Housing’s (J4H) Director of Operations, fellow senior leaders, and staff as appropriate, develop and implement various communications and marketing projects for J4H, manage technological and design components including the organization’s website, and lead special projects to support J4H’s continued growth.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all communication efforts including but not limited to website, email, and social media.
  • Photography and Videography (video editing and creation)
  • Manage online donation and communication databases and reporting tools including, but not limited to, GoFundMe, ACT Blue, Action Network and MailChimp.
  • Oversee office technological needs, including email and file access, etc. and provide tech support.
  • Develop internal administrative policies related to communications, databases, IT, etc.
  • Graphic Design
  • Manage Zoom events/webinar and Zoom meetings.
  • Co-facilitate dialogues with harmed and responsible parties, connect responsible parties to appropriate services and supports, and deliver trauma-informed restorative justice curriculum among other duties.
  • Participate in leadership and team decision making with respect to programming and strategic planning.
  • Attend continuing educational opportunities for our Hands on Defense (HOD) program.
  • Manage HOD website portal in partnership with the HOD Program Manager.
  • Attend and participate in weekly J4H team meetings.
  • Create graphics for social media ads.
  • Create onboarding and move-in videos 
  • Create a quarterly newsletter.
  • Create annual reports.
  • Coordinate media requests and contact journalists to raise J4H’s profile.
  • Create weekly action alerts.
  • Coordinate campaign events.
  • Work with the organizing team to create petitions, op-eds, and sign-on letters (Action Network).
  • Manage mass emails (Action Network & MailChimp).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be available to work some weekends and after hours

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Experience in creating a culturally affirming workspace.
  • Three or more years of social media and graphic design.
  • Preferred but not required Experience working with incarcerated individuals and formerly incarcerated individuals.
  • Adobe Suite 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to meet deadlines and work interdependently.
  • Exhibit thoughtful and nuanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate self-initiative and an ability to work independently to manage projects and progress against work plans and goals in a short timeframe, to high standards.

 

Organizational Relationship: Reports to Director of Operations

 

Physical Demands: Active environment required travel in the Greater Boston Area. Must be able to work at a computer. Occasional night and weekend hours.

 

Work on-site in the office and will require working outside at events.
