The regular full-time (40 hours per week) preschool teachers for the three-year-old rooms are responsible for the delivery of a high-quality developmentally appropriate curriculum that prepares the children socially, emotionally, cognitively, spiritually, and physically for the next level of growth.
Education Requirements
The regular full-time preschool teacher position is ideally filled by a person with a BA or AA Degree in Early Childhood Development. At a minimum, the candidate will possess at least 12 units in ECE, plus 2-5 years preschool teaching experience, and, ideally, a Child Development Teacher Permit.
Responsibilities:
Nurturing:
•Greet and welcome arriving children to preschool and appropriately facilitate their transition to the classroom or playground.
•Support the emotional and social development of all children in your class through relationships and activities.
Curriculum development & implementation:
•Collaborate with 3-4s teaching team members and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of preschool programs.
•Create and facilitate a developmentally appropriate daily schedule for your classroom, integrating all areas of early childhood development including handwashing, snack and lunch times, rest time, circle time, free play time, outdoor playground time, and teacher-directed activities.
•Plan and present developmentally appropriate activities designed to support children’s physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development, such as counting, pre-writing activities, science, art, music, storytelling, reading (to large or small groups), music and movement, cooperative or turn-taking games, self-care, and social skills.
•Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those to the Director via monthly curriculum outline.
•Establish routines for classroom behavior with each incoming class, and procedures for maintaining order and safety.
Materials and supplies:
•Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
•Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities ahead of time, so they are ready for the children at the time of use.
•Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' individual needs and interests.
•Select and store classroom equipment, materials, and supplies using school provided budget.
•Display children’s creations in a manner appropriate for their ages and perceptual skills.
•Arrange indoor and outdoor space (in collaboration with colleague teachers) to facilitate and support creative play, learning, motor skill development, and safety.
Knowledge of Child development:
•Observe, document, and evaluate children’s development, behavior, and physical health.
•Prepare twice-yearly student progress reports for all children based on observation and documentation throughout their school attendance.
•Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with the teaching team and the Director to determine next steps.
•Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress and needs as requested or needed, determine parent/guardian priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development at home.
Communication:
•The teacher must be able to independently use the preschool’s selected parent engagement app, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook email system.
•Create and distribute monthly newsletters and curriculum communications for families via parent engagement app, handouts, and email.
•Regularly communicate with families in person when possible, and daily via parent engagement app, school email, and electronic meetings.
