Job Summary: Responsible for assisting with the examining, diagnosing, treating, and euthanizing of animals in the care of the Cabot Animal Support Services Department. Work includes providing quality-level veterinary medical services, as well as maintaining accurate records and reports, while adhering to the protocol and procedures approved by the shelter Veterinarian.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Provide veterinary medical services that ensures welfare and proper care of animals within the shelter facility in all phases of shelter operation. To include, but not limited to, examinations diagnoses, and treatment of injured and sick animals, selects.
2) Coordinates all medical activities at the shelter with the Director, Veterinarian, and personnel regarding animal welfare.
3) Maintains controlled drug logs
4) Observes animal behavior and health at Shelter and reports and documents unusual behavior and/or circumstances through a daily audit of all shelter animals
5) Prepares and maintains records of all treatments, diagnoses, and euthanasia.
6) Maintain and stores medical equipment and supplies; check supplies for adherence specifications.
7) Assists with all required tasks in preparation of surgery/anesthesia during spay/neuter clinics.
8) Operates all computer software to document animal intake, medical condition, vaccinations, and treatments.
9) Cleans kennels and surrounding work areas within the shelter in accordance with proper disease control requirements.
10) Performs routine maintenance and ground keeping duties on animal shelter facility.
11) Maintains safe and effective work environment and complies with animal shelter procedures, policies, rules, and regulations.
12) Performs other veterinary and animal care responsibilities as directed by a licensed veterinarian or other supervisor.
13) All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) At least two (2) years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician at a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, animal shelter, or related organization. Work experience must include surgical preparation of patients, anesthesia induction, and monitoring patients intra- and post- surgery
2) A valid Arkansas driver’s license before and during the duration of employment
3) At least 21 years of age
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Associate degree in veterinary technology
2) Passing Scores on any/all applicable National and State Licensing Examinations for Veterinary Technology
