The accountant position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations of Ronald
McDonald House Charities of Arkansas and North Louisiana (RMHCAR-NLA) including maintaining the financial and accounting records, reconciling, and balancing accounts, financial reporting and assisting with the annual audit and budget development.
Essential Functions
- Enter revenue, prepare and review check requests, and monitor and record ACH payments
- Prepare and deposit physical checks and cash, as well as electronic deposits
- Enter bills, prepare vendor checks and post journal entries
- Reconcile and balance multiple bank accounts and credit cards by set deadlines
- Maintain appropriate financial records through the use of an accounting software system
(QuickBooks Enterprise)
- Track restricted income and expense, account reconciliation, donation reconciliation, and project or program income and expense
- Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, for pricing decisions with vendor contracts.
- Assist with improving the efficiency and/or accuracy of financial systems and procedures as the organization grows and expands into other regions.
- Oversee compliance with financial policies and procedures to ensure financial records are consistent, accurate, and GAAP compliant, and that internal controls are maintained
- Monitor financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit annual nonprofit filings with Secretary of State.
- Communicate with non-accounting staff on budgeting, coding, and payments.
- Provide external accounting firm with monthly financial reporting information.
- Collaborate with external audit firm to prepare for the annual financial audit, ensuring financial records are maintained as accurate, complete, and GAAP compliant.
- Assist COO with preparation of the annual operating budget with non-finance staff. Enter budgets in accounting software.
- Work with internal staff to reconcile pledge receivables and donor records monthly.
- Resolve vendor inquiries and payment discrepancies.
- Maintain an organized, efficient, and complete filing system.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Passion for the mission of the RMHCAR-NLA
- Working knowledge of accrual accounting. (Nonprofit accounting including but not limited to leases, capital costs vs expense, functional expense, deferred income, pre-paid expense d restricted net assets a plus)
- Computer experience required including working knowledge of Microsoft suite, especially Excel, Adobe, online banking, QuickBooks and/or QuickBooks Enterprise
- Ability to work on multiple/diverse complex issues with accuracy of work and attention to detail
- Ability to perform work that is varied and moderately complex with assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to identify deviation from accepted practice for resolution is required
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment which requires initiative, creative problem- solving, and collaboration
- Ability to work independently which requires strong organizational skills, comfort with accepting direction, and effective, transparent communication
- Must maintain discretion with regard to confidentiality and privacy
