We are looking for a Graphic Designer with Web Design experience to create and manage digital and print designs for our mostly software clients’ marketing needs. This is a contractor 1099 position with hourly rate based on experience. It is a part-time position starting out at 10-15 hours per week and hours and hourly rate will increase as more experience is gained. Responsibilities include managing all graphic/web design tasks, refining projects, and drafts, and generating creative ideas. We would like to find someone local who can come into the office every so often (5-6 times per month).
Must have extensive knowledge of graphic and web design, styles, and techniques. It would be helpful to also have experience in working on marketing campaigns, and possess a clear understanding of technology Marketing, print production, website design, corporate identity, advertisements, and multimedia design. We work in the following solutions:
- Adobe Creative Suite
- WordPress with a few select themes
- HubSpot CRM and Marketing Automation
- Microsoft Office Suite
Graphic/Web Designer Role & Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in a small collaborative creative team consisting of copywriters, art directors and designers by contributing to almost every stage of the creative process. On occasion you will participate in client meetings
- Create iterative design prototypes based on project scope from client meetings.
- Work with the creative director and CEO (occasionally customers) to generate creative to present to clients for approvals.
- Prepare files for digital/print/web and partner with creative team to deliver files to client or 3rd-party partners.
- Work with copywriters, creative director, and CEO to complete client projects by the team in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work in WordPress with a good understanding of WordPress Codex, CSS and some knowledge of PHP. Web design will consist of understanding creating media that is responsive on multiple delivery endpoints – Desktop, Mobile, Tablet, Large Format display for conferences, video on large screen as well as social platforms.
- Work within a structured project management platform to manage and document work throughout the project lifecycle.
Graphic Designer Qualifications/Skills:
- Demonstrable graphic and web design skills with a strong portfolio.
- Advanced knowledge required in Adobe Cloud Suite Products: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, and Audition. UX/UI prototyping software a plus.
- Experience in team file sharing services like structured project management solution and Google Drive.
- We are a Windows shop. Must have knowledge of Windows OS environment with Office Suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- If you want to use your own Mac device, this is fine. If you want to use your own Windows desktop, this is also fine. We will provide a nice Windows workstation in the office and laptop if you do not have or need one.
- A strong eye for visual composition, establishing mood and tone through a combination of photography, illustrations, type and other design elements.
- Able to quickly communicate ideas through rough design prototypes. It is a plus if you are an illustrator, and able to sketch creative ideas.
- Effective time management skills, and able to balance multiple projects for different clients at the same time.
- Clear understanding of Marketing, production, website design, corporate identity, product packaging, advertisements, and multimedia design.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design is helpful but not required. A plus if you have experience with front-end software dev, UI/UX experience.
- Three to five years of experience in graphic and web design with online portfolio.
About Our Work Environment
- We have an office on the North Shore in Chattanooga and are looking for a hybrid contractor who can work 20-30% in the office.
- We provide a comfortable work environment with casual dress code.
- We are not a sweatshop and understand that as 1099 contractor, you have other things going on in your life, both work-related and personal. Ideally, you will have the freedom to work with us and to have time for other work or personal activities.
- You will be working mostly independently, as we all do, so honesty and integrity is important for us.
- We are all easy to get along with, all of us are very creative. Most of us are musicians.
- Because this is a contractor 1099 position, you will set your schedule, but we would ask that:
- You are available to take a phone call or respond to email in a timely manner during weekdays. We don’t work much at all on the weekend.
- Track your time honestly and record your work with notes/comments in our project management system regularly.
- We’d like you to have fun. You can pick your schedule – work mornings, afternoons or evenings. As long as you can help us deliver work on time, your schedule can be very flexible.
