Intern Vertical Hydroponic Farmer

SUMMARY

The VHF Intern is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Agriculture, with support, correspondence, quality, store support, and projects. The VHF intern must have a friendly, engaging personality and take the initiative to gain knowledge of PDI events, programs, and employees. The VHF intern must be able to work with a diverse set of staff under the authority of the Director of Agriculture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Always support the Director of Agriculture.

· Responds to alarms or calls in a professional and timely manner.

· Always perform Quality Assurance work.

· Communicate with individuals, customers, vendors, employees, and other stakeholders to answer questions and distribute information accurately and in a positive manner.

· Follow procedures exactly to properly seed, prune, and harvest items produced on the farm.

· Must be able to follow safety rules and regulations when handling cleaning supplies and at all other times.

· Follow essential sterile and hygienic guidelines.

· Adhere to daily checklists and sign off on completed tasks and supply the finished checklist to the Director of Agriculture.

· Maintain constant communication on daily progress and tasks, and complete accurate information to each employee daily.

· Greet visitors and ensure each visitor follows the specific sanitary guidelines when entering the farm. 

· Briefly describe your daily tasks and FGC’s mission to each tour that comes to the farm.

· Respond to requests for information by documenting the request and conveying the request to the Director of Ag/Tech.

· Vehicle use:

o This position does require that you drive a personal vehicle or PDI vehicle on PDI business.

o You must have a current valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance with you at all times. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

The VHF intern - has no supervisory responsibility.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PDI POSITIONS

You must be age 18 or over to work at Fresh Greens Colorado. You must also pass a pre-hire drug and background screen as well as random drug screens that may occur at any time and without notice while employed by PDI. You must be computer-literate, comfortable with technology, and with well-developed oral and written communication skills. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to measure liquids. Knowledge of measuring units such as ounces, liters, milliliters, gallons, quarts, and cups.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The noise level in the work environment is higher than normal due to the operating fans and dehumidifiers within the farm.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a non-exempt position. Expected hours vary throughout the week, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 am and 8:00 pm. Some weekend availability may be required with advance notice, if possible. A 30-minute unpaid meal period is required unless specified by the Director of Ag/Tech.

The Office Administrator must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.

No business travel is required as part of this job.
