BARN ATTENDANT/JOB COACH
Promise Ranch Therapies & Recreation (PRTR) is a non-profit organization offering Equine-Assisted Therapies, Inclusive Recreation, Veterans Programming, and Job Coaching. PRTR serves children, adults, veterans and first responders living with developmental, emotional, mental or physical challenges.
Job Title: Barn Attendant/Job Coach
Job Type: 2 part-time positions at 20 hours (4 days) per week OR 1 full-time position at 32 hours (5 days) per week to the right candidate
Compensation: starting $15 (non-exempt) with a $2 per hour bonus when job coaching Reports to: Barn Manager
Goals: Promise Ranch’s mission is to Enhance Our Community Through Connection and Inclusion. For our Barn Team, this means working cooperatively with the team of Barn Attendants, Barn Manager, Equine Manager, Therapists/Instructors, and Volunteers. The primary objective of the barn attendant job is to provide consistent, quality care to our Program’s therapy animals, who work as partners in the development and healing of our Program participants.
Duties:
● Animal Care:
Horses
Feed hay, grain
Provide fresh water
Clean stalls and paddocks
Turn horses out/bring horses in
Blanket and fly masks as directed
Goats/Sheep
Feed hay
Provide fresh water Clean shelter
Turn goats out to
Goatopia
Alpacas
Feed hay
Provide fresh water Clean run as needed Chickens
Feed pellets
Provide fresh water
Rabbits
Feed hay, veggies, and pellets
Provide fresh water
Clean living area
daily
● Provide job coaching to a Supported Employee as scheduled
o Supervise and assist in barn chore-related tasks
o Document encounters immediately following job coaching shifts
o Prior experience not required
● Drive gator or ATV to dump manure
● Drag and Water Arena
● Inform Equine Manager and co-workers of issues or emergencies
● Communicate openly and proactively with all Promise Ranch team members ● Instruct and Supervise Volunteers who sign up to assist with Barn Chores ● Be willing to sub if needed
● Requirements:
o Ability to lift and transport up to 75 pounds.
o Valid Driver’s License and Transportation.
o Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and interpersonal skills. o Ability to self-direct, work independently and as part of a team.
o Have a passion for the mission of Promise Ranch: Enhancing Our Community Through Connection and Inclusion.
o Previous barn work experience REQUIRED.
o Tractor experience desired, but not required
Environmental Factors:
➔ Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather ➔ Walking between work sites
➔ Exposure to dust, heat, cold, moisture, equines and other animals, associated odors, and noisy conditions.
