About Us:

We are an on and off-premises catering, food service, and special events company specializing in traditional Criollo cuisine. While Latino food is our specialty, Salsa also offers diverse menus for a wide range of cultural affairs.

About the Role:

This is a Temporary, Part-time (as-needed) hourly position. The work schedule will include nights and weekends based on scheduled events or event necessity.

Qualifications

  • The qualified candidate will possess a passion for flawless service and the highest level of integrity and work ethic

  • Must possess the desire to grow with a fast emerging and quickly growing on-site/off-site Catering & Special Events Company

  • A minimum of 3 years as a banquet captain or similar position

  • Strong customer service background with the ability and personality that is required for being a team player, interacting professionally with clients, and the overall friendly, positive attitude and mindset needed to serve people in general

  • A creative forward thinker who can evaluate a situation and make suggestions, take action to implement changes needed on the spot, and communicate with their team in an effective manner

  • Must be positive, empowering, responsible, dependable, detail-oriented, and organized

  • Professional verbal communication skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Must be able to efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while meeting deadlines, prioritizing appropriately, and providing excellent customer service

  • Knowledge of the Caterease application and off-premise catering experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Includes but is not limited to following

Pre-event:

  • Reviewing all captain paperwork including but not limited to invoice, BEO, packing list, staff assignments, and captain report. Making calls to clients and all department managers to ensure the accuracy of event details.

During Event:

  • Welcoming guests upon their arrival and assisting them with their seating arrangements

  • Assisting managers and event consultants with planning the layout and logistics of events

  • Setting up and managing staff shifts and timetables

  • Developing and providing staff with the necessary training, including customer service and serving etiquette

  • Managing the setup and breakdown of on and off-premise events

  • Running the floor and coordinating the food and drink service by liaising with the kitchen and service staff

  • Monitoring the inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture

  • Tending to guests' requests, questions, and complaints

  • Ensuring that the venue and facilities remain neat and clean

  • Ensuring that all applicable safety regulations are communicated and adhered to

Post-event:

  • Providing a comprehensive post-event Captain Report, and payroll sheet, and submitting it to Director, Catering no more than 24 hours after the event.

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Booking and coordinating event logistics using the Caterease application

  • Preferred Education and/or Experience: A minimum of 3 years as a banquet captain or similar position Previous knowledge, skills, and abilities in serving, supervising, and training in a fine dining food service environment are a plus.

  • Required certification: New York City Food Handler’s Certification. If you do not have this certification, Salsa will sponsor your certification.

  • Language Skills: The ability to write and speak concisely is required to maintain proper, effective communication between staff and clients; excellent verbal skills are essential to supervise and direct personnel effectively. Bilingual English - Spanish is required.

  • Physical Demands: This position routinely requires standing, walking, holding/carrying, reaching, twisting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, sitting, and climbing stairs/ladders. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move at least 40 pounds on a consistent basis.
