Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate is hardworking, adaptable, and possesses a cheerful disposition that contributes to a positive work environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting our veterinarian and technician/assistants in providing high-quality care to our patients. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth functioning of our hospital and the well-being of the animals under our care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians in examination, treatment, and surgery procedures.
  • Handle and restrain animals in a safe and compassionate manner.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, kennels, and common areas.
  • Monitor and document patients' vital signs and behavior during appointments and procedures.
  • Provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and administering medications as directed.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including sample collection, processing, and running tests.
  • Maintain accurate and organized patient records in both digital and physical formats.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing education on proper animal care and medication administration.
  • Assist in managing inventory of medical supplies and medications.
  • Participate in client education initiatives and hospital events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or coursework is a plus.
  • Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related animal care role is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Passion for working with animals and providing compassionate care.
  • Ability to handle and restrain animals with patience and kindness.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced and sometimes emotionally charged environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic medical records.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and some holidays.
