Title: Civic Engagement Intern
Position Location: This position will be Hybrid part remote, and part based in ACT’s offices in Philadelphia. This position requires some evenings and weekend work.
Reports to: Philadelphia Chapter Director
Employment Type: Temporary
Hours: (25 hours/weekly)
Salary: $15 hourly
Organization: African Communities Together (ACT) is an organization of African immigrants fighting for civil rights, opportunity, and a better life for our families here in the U.S. and worldwide. ACT works to support and empower African immigrants to integrate socially, advance economically, and engage civically. ACT connects African immigrants to services, empowers our members to develop as grassroot leaders, and leads campaigns for social change. ACT’s African immigrant membership comes from a diverse range of nationalities, cultures, and languages, and is religiously diverse, majority women, and predominantly working-class and low income.
Position Description:
African Communities Together (ACT) is seeking for a detail-oriented and motivated intern to join our Philadelphia Chapter's Civic Engagement team. The internship will focus on supporting our civic engagement efforts in Philadelphia, with an emphasis on data entry, cleanup, and promoting voter participation. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your data management skills and acquire practical experience with civic engagement. This is a temporary position that will terminate on October 1, 2023, with a possible extension until December 2023.
Key responsibilities include:
• Assist with data entry tasks, ensuring accuracy of data related to civic engagement activities.
• Conduct data collection activities, which may include surveys and interviews,
• Clean up and organize existing datasets.
• Participate in organizing efforts, including outreach and relationship-building with community leaders and organizations.
• Assist in maintaining contact database and updating stakeholder information.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in a field related to data management or political science.
• Experience with data entry and data cleaning is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in English is required. Fluency in a widely spoken African language or French is desirable.
• Must reside in or around Philadelphia.
• Must have access to a working laptop.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, and other spreadsheet software.
• Understanding of and passion for ACT’s mission and values.
• Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented team player.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Excellent in-person, verbal, and written communication skills.
