CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA: PRIVATE EDUCATOR NEEDED FOR CHILD WITH ASD/ADHD

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (LOCAL CANDIDATES PREFERRED)-Wonderful parents living in NY seek a PRIVATE EDUCATOR for their 6.5-year-old son with high-functioning autism and ADHD. He will be living with his grandparents at the start of this coming school year (August) in Charlottesville. His broader family and siblings live in Rye, NY. His Mom in Rye will be active in his day-to-day life and manage his care-providing team in Virginia, inclusive of the private educator, nanny and therapists, and partner with the private educator to help develop and teach curriculum.

He is an extremely bright and curious child. He is academically advanced and enjoys learning. While he is only 6.5 years old, he is on a third-grade level academically but is delayed socially. He loves logic games and puzzles. He also enjoys sports and outdoor activities such as basketball, throwing a football, and frisbee. He is a social child who loves human connections. He prefers a one-on-one setting for adult and peer interactions. He is diagnosed with ASD and relates best with some coaching and guidance from those who understand how his brain works. He can get emotionally dysregulated from simple irritations and does best with a structured schedule.

Lessons will ideally take place outside of the home from 8/8:30am-1pm Monday-Friday. Charlottesville has a strong home-school network and offers wonderful resources and areas for learning. The private educator will work with the parents to come up with a curriculum using standard home-school material. The day will be structured with a few hours of regular instruction and breaks as needed. The family will look to the private educator to identify extracurricular activities and programs for him to participate in and the nanny will assume the responsibility of taking him to and from those activities. Parents seek a true partner who can help identify areas for him to grow intellectually, physically, and emotionally. Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with the child’s parents, nanny, grandparents and therapists, etc. A family vehicle will be provided while transporting the child while on the job.

The ideal candidate has an undergraduate degree in teaching, education, special education or another related field and/or a master's degree. Experience working with children with autism/ADHD/social-emotional dysregulation is a must. They seek someone who can push him academically but provide him with social and emotional stability. The flexibility to travel on occasion (typically to see family in NY) is a bonus, but not a firm requirement!

Pay is commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid sick days, holidays and vacation. Start date is mid-August!
